Hazel and I are happy to announce the birth of our baby daughter, Diana Rose
Hackbarth. She was born at 9 pm Monday night, after a heroic day's effort on
Hazel's part. Baby Diana wasn't keen on leaving the womb, and Hazel had to use
all of her (abdominal) powers of persuasion. The nurses were all impressed.
She's a good 7 lbs. 12 oz. and 21 inches long.

Baby Diana was not born into perfect health: she has a jaw problem that makes it
tough for her to breathe when she's on her back, so right now she's stuck at the
hospital. Hazel and I are sad not to be able to bring her home right away, but
we spent the afternoon with her today and she's a vibrant, happy baby and is
extremely cute. We hope to bring her home soon.
