Hey guys!
It's a gorgeous day! And I have my glow-in-the-dark Discraft
UltraStar ready :) The responses I got were a mix of Saturdays and
Wednesdays so I'm calling it for Wednesday. While I would love to
play today, I was not on top of things and didn't get an email sent
out over the weekend plus I was out of town and not able to talk with
everyone at last Sunday's pickup. So here's the deal...
Email the list today if you want to play and if we have enough on
this short notice then we'll play tonight. I'll make a decision by
mid-afternoon. If not, we'll set a firm date for next Wednesday. Of
course, we can go out for pizza (or other grub) afterwards.
Since the sun sets just after 5 pm, the game will be at the normal
Wed. pick-up time of 5:30-6.

For additional notes on safety, read on! A few people have asked me
about this and so here is my response. There is obviously inherent
risk in playing Ultimate no matter what the conditions. Personally I
don't feel that the risk is any greater when playing responsibly in a
glow game...
Concerning the field - Unless there is a marker disc on the ground or
a player is trying to go for a disc near the line in the endzone, no
one is looking carefully at the ground while they are running even in
the daylight. We're going to use the good side of field where we
play on Sundays and I'll set up the field ahead of time while there
is still some light left to check it out and set out markers if
needed.
Concerning other players - Everyone will be wearing necklaces as well
as bracelets on their arms so it's gonna be very difficult to slam
into someone at full speed when you can see bright colored lights in
front of you showing you the location of their body and the ends of
their arms. Eyes will adjust remarkably well to the darkness. Also I
don't anticipate people being ultra-competitive and doing dumb things
that put others at risk.
The whole idea is to do something cool, different and fun! I learned
about glow-in-the-dark Ultimate from players in Georgia and if you
have any questions, I would refer you to our own Chris (PeeWee) who
has played here in Virginia and will enthusiastically recommend it.
