Hey Paul,
I hope we can cook up a trip to Baldy soon. When the last one was
postponed I decided to go anyway but I flaked out on myself.
There has also been talk of getting a group up to Big Bear. That
woudl be awesome.
When do you train on weekends? If you are in the CDM area we could
easily get a group together. I tend to run in afternoons or evenings
on weekends, I'm weird like that but most others meet in the morning.
There are some fantastic trails in Laguna Beach as you may know. I
did one today.

I had a late afternoon meeting which ran overtime. Hope everyone had
fun. I ended up running solo in Aliso Creek out of Top of the World
this evening. I think I saw Tom and Jessica's footprints on the Mathes
trail!
Dave
Jessica,
I would be glad to handle some training runs for the Bulldog course.
I know it quite well and have run it on my own probably 25 times. I
have an ultrarunning friend who is considerably faster than me that
could lead a faster group and I could introduce anyone that wants to
familiarize himself/herself to the course at a much slower pace. If
anyone would like to try it out, I am glad to do it informally one-on-
one or host a group.
As far as my Sunday runs, they might be a bit out of the way for
everyone, but I will add them on Sundays where I don't see something
planned for the group in OC.
Thanks again and I sure wish you a speedy recovery from chest pain
issues.
Best,
Matt

Matt,
I think it would be great if you posted some runs up your way.
Especially if the long runs are on Sundays since our long runs are
typically on Saturdays. I don't see a problem with that and I'm sure
some of us would love to come up there once in a while for a change of
scenery. maybe you can post a bulldog training run for us :)

Hi Jessica,
It is great to see the response from the group regarding
involvement. I had a question for you. As someone was out of the
area that was kindly invited to join in on some of your runs, would
you have any issues with me posting some of the runs that I try to do
in areas that are out of OC. I don't want to interfere with the
mission of the club and I have great respect for all of the hard work
you have put into it over the last few years. If I post my runs, I
would make sure that it did not pose a conflict. I will also plan on
taking you up on your invitation of joining you all on one of your
runs in the near future.
Thanks,
Matt
P.S.
To the group: I am a trailrunner from the ventura county area.
Jessica and I have known each other a couple of years and have run
together on occasion and have run some of the same races (she is
considerably faster than me). I typically run in the trails of the
Santa Monica Mtns, but will venture out into the Los Padres and San
Gabriels. Jessica has been kind enough to inivte me to join your
group so that I can train for some of my races with you. I am very
slow, usually one of the last people to cross the finish line. If it
is okay with Jessica, I will post some of my long training runs
(usually on Sundays) and if someone is interested in tolerating a
slow poke on some tough terrain, then I am your man. If I see that
there is something planned for a Sunday, then I will not post mine to
prevent any conflict. I want to respect your OC trail group.

Sounds great! The more run options on the calendar the better :)
FYI on run posting etiquette - Anyone can post a run on our calendar.
Please try to not post a run at the same time and similar distance as
another current run. Exceptions would be a north county run and south
county run at the same time are okay even if they are of a similar
distance. A run in a similar area that is 20 miles can be posted at
the same time as a 5 mile run. An example to avoid would be a 7:30AM
5 mile run in Aliso on the same day as a 7:00AM 6 mile run in El Moro.
We just want to try and avoid conflicts so more of us can run
together. :)
thanks!

8:45 not speedy???? Good thing i didn't bring up my 10 min/mile as my marathon pace......
I too am guilty of not participating. Mary told me about your club and i signed up. I live in Riverside and train in the Corona Del Mar area on weekends. I DO want to particpate in your Mt. Baldy runs and have been following the chatter back and forth closely. I have been traveling a lot for work lately and not been able to get out there. Hotel treadmills aint the same. I am doing Mt. Disappointment Ultra on Aug 9th and need the trail time.........Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I have run a couple marathons and several half and shorter events. I'm not speedy (8:45 or so on paved trails for general/maintenance running).
I live in Corona, but work in Long Beach and run in OC frequently (weekends too).
I will definitely be participating! Do I need trail shoes?

Hey everyone,
I wanted to send out this note on OCTR membership. As you know, OCTR membership is currently free. Because of this, we have many people who've probably joined this site & group just to "check things out". While that's fine for a while, I do want to encourage participation in the group and group runs.
To some, it may be intimidating to come out to a trail run or group run for the first time. I assure you that we are a very un-intimidating group and don't worry much about distance, speed, time, etc. We make every effort to accommodate runners of all types, speeds, etc.
We'll also be having some type of social event in the next month or two which will give people another chance to come out and meet other members of the group and feel more comfortable running with us.
In order to help make this an active group, I'm asking a couple things:
First - Go to the database section in the Yahoo Group and enter in at least your name and phone number + any other info you want to disclose (only 13 people have done this so far). Please do this by July 15 as we'll be putting together a phone contact list.
Second - I'm requiring all members to participate in a group run at least once every quarter (90 days / 3 months). Of course there are exceptions in the case of injuries, etc.
Third - New members need to attend a run within 60 days / 2 months of joining. (this starts July 1 for all currently new members who have not yet come to a run).
I don't want to bog down the club with rules but I DO want to encourage group participation and discourage the looky-loos who just want to see what's going on. We have 85 runners signed up for this group but I've only seen about 15-20 of you out at various runs. No need to hide :)
Hope to see you on the trail soon! Jessica

Fullerton Trail?? Good hills or flat depending on how many miles. I am running Tues. and Thurs. about 6:15 or later depending on the miles needed. I also want to run Friday evening less miles and possibly Wed. mornings about 6:00 a.m. I'm running 7-8 but can do a longer run on either tues. or thurs.

I'd like to get together for runs in the evenings with some people who
can't do Wednesday or Saturday group runs. I do runs on weekends during
the afternoon or evenings and would like to hook up with someone or
someone's. Anyone interested, please post times you would like to run
and we'll set something up! I'm pretty slow and am limited to about 6
miles for the time being, but we can set up a longer run and I'll just
bail out early.
Thanks!
Dave
Since I don't live in OC and my workload has been very hectic for the past couple of years (good for job security), it's quite challenging to be able to even make it to one run in the OC area. I haven't even thought of the ga$. Much easier for me to run in the Pasadena area. You can go aheand and remove me from your list.
Take care of the chest pain and good luck with the group.
Cheers,
Carmela

Hi Mike, If you are new to trails I would get out and run a few before you decide to buy trail shoes or not.
Thanks for the email. Hope to see you on the trails soon!!

First - Go to the database section
in the Yahoo Group and enter in at least your name and phone number + any other info you want to disclose (only 13 people have done this so far).
We'll do the July 26th new member run at Chino Hills at 7AM.
Hopefully that will bring out some of the North OC people who can hook
up for more runs in addition to this one!

Hi Mary,
Thanks for the email. I certainly appreciate that some (like you) may
have schedule conflicts.
We will certainly have more run options as the group grows and anyone
in the group already has the ability to post their own runs for
members to attend if some of the existing times don't work.
Hopefully we'll get more people posting runs on different days and at
different times to help accommodate more schedules.
It would be nice to see some later Sunday morning runs, weekday
morning runs and later weekday evening runs.
I can't be at all of them, so post away people :)
Happy Running,
Jessica

At least it's not heart related :)
But it is painful still. My doctor said it appears to be deeper down
and is not a strain near the surface. Whatever that means. I'm
jealous you all get to run in El Moro this afternoon!

Jessica, sorry to hear about this, and I sure hope it goes away soon.
I've had chest pains in the past, but they did not persist for more
than a day or two and were never very intense. Back then I was running
at high altitudes, and sometimes I would feel sharp pains in my chest
during the run, and it felt like what you described. I believe the
pains were from the heavy breathing I was doing which no doubt strained
certain muscles in there. Running at 8,000+ feet I would sometimes feel
like I was gasping for air.
Anyway, you're very courageous, and I know you'll be back out there
very soon. You'll probably benifit from a short rest, after that long
run!
