I run mainly because I enjoy it. I enjoy myself while running. I also run to benefit from the "side-effects" of running: improved self-concept and self-esteem, a stronger body, stronger legs, a stable weight (most of the time).
I enjoy the solitude of running alone, thoughts and ideas flowing...
I also enjoy the social aspect of running, the companionship, the help to keep going when I think I can't, the talks, the laughs, the priceless moments, those of doing something you enjoy with a bunch of special people who enjoy the same thing.
That's about 5% of the answer... :-)
