Re: [TheBladeThrower] method, wich can be used for any distance

Guten Tog
 Forgive my bad German please!
As you say everyone has a way of doing things that they think is the correct way and I don't say they are wrong (for them) but if you want to learn to throw a knife from just about any distance from 2 feet from the target out to about 18 feet from the target I suggest what I was taught as a Military Throw commonly used in throwing Bayonets at various distances by the blade, it is a half spin throw and all you have to do is grip closer to the tip/point of the knife for closer throws and up towards the hilt or cross guard for the longer throws, Obviously when throwing a sharp edged knife you want the sharp part away from your palm and use your thumb as a guide to keep the blade from releasing too early and in this throw the blade is horizontal in your hand with the flat of the blade facing the ground.
At least this is what works for me, if I modify a Swiss SIG Bayonet but cutting the cross guard and butt end down and smooth out the rings on the handle I can throw one of them about 30 feet for a half spin hitting what would be considered Body Mass just about every time, as with no spin and full spin throwing it takes practice and you can't use a knife that has too wide a blade as it will get in the way of the release!
This is just the way I personally do it, I know Roy from England can do some amazing things with no spins so therefore I'd suggest he is quite capable of doing the same with half spins, but many years ago Harry K. McEvoy who was the owner and creator of Tru-Bal throwing knives explained to me that a handle heavy knife was designed to be thrown by the blade while a blade heavy knife was inherently designed to be thrown by the handle and I have found that to be basically true, there are some exceptions and it depends on what your looking for as a final outcome, do you want to carry a knife that can be used for self defense, is this for throwing at targets or is it just for fun, that will dictate the type of knife I would personally recommend!
