Re: [TheBladeThrower] practice routines

Terrific! Thanks for the advice!

If you're throwing screwdrivers it might help to switch to more of a shuriken style when doing the no spin. Find the balance point of the screwdriver, put the tip of your index finger on that point when throwing, use more of a locked wrist release than with my style, and also use more of a quarter spin flight pattern (release with the point more straight up than towards the target). This should extend your range with small or unbalanced weapons. I specificially am going  recommend screwdrivers in my next video for just the reason you mention, when people want to not be perceived as throwing weapons...

Yeah man,

Seeing as how I don't have a yard, I only get to practice forty minutes, five days a week in the lot behind the store where I work.
I also have to use screwdrivers so I won't get arrested, but that's cool, 'cause I'm kinda addicted to throwing them now.
I chalk mark my distances: 8', 10', 12', 15, up to 16' for half spins. ( Roy, is my favorite thrower right now. I love half spinning ) 25' is where i start to throw full spins.Yes, I have Ralph's awesome video, but I can only manage those no spins kinda only a few feet away from the target.
I change the face of the board regularly to break up the routine, staggering bulls eyes at various levels. I also do ladder of death and profile, ect in as many variations as I can. Cheap playing cards also make for great targets! Play blackjack!
I start with standard overhand throws at various distances, then throw facing opposite direction of target from between the legs, from a bent over position, lying flat on the ground, sitting position, ect. Then I work up to walking away from target, abruptly turning and trying to hit target. walking randomly in different directions and speeds. Sometimes I throw a handful up in the air and wherever they land, that's where I have to throw them from-acting like you are picking up thrower and tossing it from the ground level up to target. Just now also started running towards the target and throwing when I feel the right distance. My underhand no spins are the only ones I can manage at about six to eight feet.
Also helps to change the shape of the target. For impalement arts type practice, I will line a fence post all the way from bottom to top, then from top to bottom.
Then there are the improvised, side arm throws( lots of power there! ) and round things out by throwing as many as fast as I can.
One thing is for sure, I noticed my shoulder aches less when i started doing push ups on the regular and warming up for just a minute before practice.
BTW- if there are any central Jersey throwers out there...Where are you?????? LOL I feel like the only person doing this kind of thing around here!
Keep practicing, and good luck. God bless this forum!
