I'm with you, Al.
At least conservatives will have the benefit of President Bush's veto
pen until January 2009. If the D's take the White House in 2008, AND
control both houses of the congress, then gun owners, family value
voters, and fiscal conservatives – with the opening of Congress in
January 2009, will begin a brutal political period of getting
seriously screwed. The Republicans in the Senate will be darn glad
that they didn't succeed in getting rid of the "clochure vote" to
bring a bill to the Senate Floor, because that will be the ONLY
saving grace under that Democatic trifecta scenario.
I'm hopeful that IF the GOP takes the predicted "licking" tomorrow,
that they will regroup and start acting like the party of Ronald
Reagan again, and rebound in the 2008 Elections. The GOP should be
ashamed of themselves for the pork-barrel spending that they've
engaged in and for trying to be the all-inclusive, tolerant of all
agendas, "big tent" Party. The GOP must offer something tangible in
return for a voter base turnout – it's as simple as that.
I am also hopeful that when the 60% of Americans voters that self-
proclaim the title "moderate," see in action Cong. Nancy Pelosi, as
U.S. House Speaker, and Sen. Harry Reid, as U.S. Senate President --
they will repent, and come running back to the GOP. Hopefully, the
GOP will have its act together when/if that happens.
