Thanks Roddy for the info. I've been leaning towards reinstalling the factory rear myself. I find my eyes are getting real finicky on sights these days. I have the bar-dot SIG sights on my 228. I tried putting on 3 dot night sights and didn't shoot anywere near as well. I put the SIG bar rear sight back on, and my groups returned to normal. I had trouble with the black on black sights on my Ruger SBH .44, so I put on the Millet sights and now I shoot very well with it. I was having trouble with the black on black sights on the .45, so I similarly installed the Millets, but I am not shooting well at all. I haven't figured out yet how the Millets on the Colt differ from the Millets on the Ruger, but somehow my eyes are seeing them differently. I tried a SIG 220 with the std SIG bar-dot sights, and I shoot that great, just like my 228.
Getting old really
sucks!
At least I can still shoot great with my Ruger SRH with a scope on it!!

Larry, First off, you're best bet is to trade for something at either a gunshow or at a gun shop. For a dealer to buy the pistol outright, they will need to say, give you $600 for a pistol they could sell for $800. You could sell on line through a site like Gunbroker, or Gunsamerica, but you'll need to first line up a FFL dealer on your end and see what that dealer will charge you to handle the transaction. Then once you have a FFL dealer on your end you'll need to advertise it as a dealer to dealer sale only. On a side note, if you installed the Millet front sight which used the huge tenon hole, then you've hurt the value by quite a bit. As for the Millet rear sight, you'd be better off re installing the factory Colt sight. The dealer cost on a new Gold Cup is around $800, so that's about the best you might expect without the Millet sights. Roddy

I have a Colt series 80 blued Gold Cup with original brown box and papers. The gun is stock except for a couple mods. I put base pads on the two mags, and also changed out followers and springs to extend them to 8 rounds. I put Millett red front/white outline adjustable rear sights on, but still have the original Elliason rear sight. I have Hogue black rubber finger grips on it currently, but still have the original wood grips. I have talked to the local gun shops and they only offer $600 trade in. I've seen them on line in the $800 to $1000 range. These days it's damn near impossible for a gun owner to do a private sale of a handgun. None of the papers will touch them. I could sell it through a dealer and pay commission.Anyone out there had any experience with selling guns on line? On the surface, it would seem to reach a much larger audience and possibly get a better price?thanks!Larry
