All the standard 1911's I've had I carried cocked and locked with one
in the pipe. If I had the hammer down it would be in the half cocked
with the safety on or off, depending on where I was at the time. Now,
I've don't worry about the C&L since I bought a Para LDA (Tac-Four
13+1 45acp). It's bobbed beaver tail and hammer are pretty much snag
proof and with the safety off there's still the grip safety. My CCW
Instructor says "A carry gun should be comforting, not comfortable."
I think I found both with my Para

That may well be the case then Dan. I do not have the series 70 style. The Colt SAA has a half cock safety and that may well be what the original style M1911...
