In support of the SS Champion...I have one. When I picked it up, I
noticed that the front sight was staked to the extreme right. I
immediately called Deb at Springfield's Custom Shop and made her
aware of the problem...and that the weapon would be on it's way the
following day. I filled out the work order for the sights and a few
other modification I wanted preformed and sent it UPS next day air
service.
I had the sight issue resolved by replacing the factory installed
Novaks with the Novak Extreme Duty fully adjustable night sights,
(Bar & Dot). For this particular weapon...I wanted the night sights.
I had the extended ambi safety removed and the standard 1911 safety
installed...not a big fan of ambi safeties...just my personal
preference.
I also had the weapon completely refinished in matte stainless
finish...also not a fan of the subdued frosted stainless finish.
Got the weapon back in 35 days from date shipped off. Added some
Hogue finger groove grips, loaded it up and shot the dog...s__t out
of it. Performance...EXCELLENT!!!
As for replacing the Bull Barrel with the standard barrel...I did
some extensive research for my own weapon. IT CAN BE DONE,
however...without some extensive milling...the standard barrel will
beat the dog...s__t out of the inside of the slide...for me...it was
not worth the time, money or effort...the damn thing is almost
flawless as is.
Cost of worked at Springfield...$204.00.
More than satisfied with the weapon.
