Why can't a traditional instructor also not be
legitimet? Don't you have to maintain the same caution
for any style and more specifically for any instructor
not just unknown neo-modern systems?

This coming from a neo-system instructor naturally.

Rick, I agree with you. It is hard to find the ancient systems, the way they trained it in ancient times and all the proper translations of movements that were created to be able to take to any extreme necessary. I am lucky to have the whole Kun Tao system that is the original indigenous Filipino system. And it has all the goodies from kicking range to the ground that one would want, weapons and it is made for multi man attack situations. All martial arts WERE like that at one time...many now a days, especially here in the US are lost in generations in the translation of the movements. A striking move for example in a lot of cases are translated as blocks, a joint manipulation movement doesn't have the proper center of gravity and/or footwork to make it work. And may be translated as a block also! Just blabbing here but I got on a subject I talk about often. We are slowly loosing our history because for the most part...what do you do with an ancient system that many don't have the time to training anyway...we are not at war! So people point spar, grapple or kick box...its easier to do and easier to learn!
