I am renewing the SpinStreet/Venom Team and club
name in good faith for the positive response I have had thus far. Please send
the $15 to my address made out to me and you can see the renewal effective at usacycling.org:
When processed the name will change from red to blue
showing re-instatement. Thanks, and remember tonight’s social/recovery
ride after a rough weekend of training or just to go get ice cream in Dewitt
or whatever. Ride will be about 1 ½ depending on the group. Slooooooooow
pace. E
Meet at the SpinStreet shop at 10 am Sunday for a 3 hour
ride. Moderate pace, short stop in Westphalia.
Monday meet at the SpinStreet shop at 6:15 for an easy
recovery pace ride up to Dewitt and back. Ice Cream stop possible. I
would like to see everyone on this ride no matter what pace you are.
Thanks, questions call Eric A. Phreed at 484 8596
Here are some regularly scheduled local rides by request:
Monday is usually a recovery after Sunday races so look for
postings but here is another…
Monday rides will start on May 4 at 6:15 from
Meridian Park. Lots of nasty pot holes out there, so pay attention. Tuesday nights at SpinStreet in Olde Towne at 6:15pm for a 40 mile ride
including intervals. The shop is on the east side of Turner ½ block north of
the Brenke Fish ladder at Grand River.
Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. from Stillman and Every, all rider ablilities, about 2
hours
Thursday night is at the corners
of Cedar, Hogsback and College at the Church of Christ. It is a faster
pace ride with sprints that go through Leslie, Williamston and back to Mason.
Friday is usually recovery or
off.
Saturday and Sunday rides
depending on races or members can post rides to the Yahoo List-serve when I
mentions weekend races.

Hey Folks,
We have had some positive response so far and I
will be renewing the SpinStreet/Venom name. We have had some new members
as a result of this series of emails. We picked up a new tri-athlete last
week Cameron Marshall (As I stated at that time), who did well in the Cone
Azalia race and sprinted on a back wheel with 2 broken spokes so he shows some
guts. We just picked up another Tri-athlete Jon Weinzweig who wants to
get back into racing and I am still looking for a guy that approached me
at the Cone race who wants to join. Get the word out. The team is
not dead! It is growing!
If we can get some decent sponsorship we can get some
new kits but for now if anyone has any needs we can put together an order.
We will keep the basic look for the kits. I have gotten many
complements on mine.
Oh yeah, I did the CAT I/II race at Cone on a
fractured rib and some bruised ribs. Our group was separated halfway into
the race behind the womens’ group on the second narrow gravel road.
When we got around them we had to chase and were scattered. I joined with
a Wolverine guy and we chased for 4 miles and almost caught them when there was
an attack and we lost them. This guy quit but I went on to finish after
catching another Wolverine. Not spectacular but better than the 5
flats last year when I swear it took an hour longer to finish.

I think I love you, that is how strong I feel about keeping
this thing together. I did the CAT I/II Cone Azalia race with a broken rib as
the only Venom guy out there and dropped better riders than myself. I raced
all last season as the only CAT I/II on our team other than Time Trials that Chisolm
did. He and I kept our category 3rd from last in the state in the
standings for 2008. Thanks, Eric A. Phreed, Director SpinStreet/Venom
I will try to get your socks to Loren. He is the only member
who has them besides myself. They are so cool.Â

dollars because I want this club to be around when I graduate and come

Well we still have a few folks on the injured roster
and as of last week, 2 more. Here’s the thing, if I can get 9 other
guys to put up $15 besides me we will have the $150 to renew the team name to
race under. If any of you just want to ride with the club and are not
ready to race and have a spare $15 I will throw in a pair of socks in the Venom
colors black and yellow out of my own pocket.
We will not be in the running for the Michigan challenge
but I believe it is important to keep the club going and growing as we have
picked up 2 new riders and we are still the only local team around and have
access to some real quality rides locally and racers from other teams to
sharpen our skills with. I have employed a coach for the summer and can
help you with any training questions.
If you know of any
companies that would like to sponsor our team in some form either cash,
discounts, or other support let me know. Healthy and Fit Magazine has
declined for this year. Chad at SpinStreet has extended his discount on
new bikes if you are in the market so let me know if you have any needs as I
have to present a list of bikes etc. to him. Thanks, Eric A. Phreed,
Director, SpinStreet/Team Venom
Well if it were not for our team Osteopathic student
support Miss Rachel Rosenbaum I would not have been able to enter the TT last Saturday
at Willow MetroPark let alone finish with 35:04 only 7 seconds slower than last
year at. I highly recommend her services which she has agreed to donate to
team members. I was racing with a cracked rib but in no other pain before or
after, thanks Rachel! Do not hesitate to contact me and I will put you in
touch with her.
Lauren put in a time of 35:05 because he chose to take a
45 second break before starting and then made the same mistake I did and tried
to stay with the big dogs going out too hard on the first 2 laps.
I would like to officially welcome aboard a new member
Cameron Marshall who has a Time Trial background, did Willow in about 33 ½ minutes
or so he told me, and is entering the Cone/Azalia race.
Lauren is out with a dislocated shoulder for at least a
month so it looks like we are going to have a late blooming team this year due
to injuries. On the bright side, come on out to the Tuesday night rides and
just sit in while the rest of us work, you are quite welcome. That’s all
for now.
If anyone wants to carpool to Cone contact me at 484 8596
or 214 5535. Eric A. Phreed, Director SpinStreet/Venom Team
I have had a request from some folks to start the ride later so they can join. This will lead to better quality rides as our numbers are not that strong some nights. These will be no drop rides so come on out.
Tomorrow is a good chance of cold rain so the ride is questionable. I willl not start a ride out in the rain if it is below 40"
Could someone send me the new route from map my ride that was sent out last fall? Thanks, Eric A. Phreed
The Willow Time Trial is Saturday and registration online closes Tues so get it done if you have not yet.
Sunday there will be a team training ride of about 3 hours meeting at the SpinStreet shop on Turner in Lansing.
The ride will be a no drop starting at 9 am. Questions call Eric @ 484 8596 or 214 5535
I have been planning on it to the point of not racing Sat. It

Eric, first appointment for the tuesday night ride. Cyclist, one. Me. The weather was good. I don't know. Maybe it's difficult be a cyclist here in Lansing. Luca
I sent out a ride invitation addressed “Gentlemen”
and meant to include the ladies too, sorry, it started out as a SpinStreet
newsletter and I wanted to include the MSU club too.
If you are going to be in the Greater Lansing area
this summer and want to join the local road team contact me,
Eric A. Phreed, Interim Director, Team Venom/SpinStreet.
You are welcome to join in on the local training rides
either way.
Lauren and I held the first Tues. ride of the 2009
season. To keep the numbers up, I have proposed going back to doing
interval work on Tuesday nights saving the hammerfest for Thursday. This
keeps the group numbers up and any dropped riders on Tuesday get several
chances to get back in the pack during the down time in between interval
work. Thursday nights have become anemic in numbers due to its nature and
the fact that not everyone can do the two rides two days apart. We will
also gain some MSU riders on both rides doing this. There are shortcuts
to get back in the Thursday ride so ask if you don’t know them.
Craig Webb and I have been building a list of local
riders interested in working on team tactics on Thursday nights so send me any
email addresses that we can add to this. He sent out an email a few weeks
ago about this so if you got one you are all set, but please send any others
whom may be interested.
I will be out of town this next Tuesday night 3/31 but
have received inquiries about when both of these rides will be starting
up. For now both rides will be starting up at 5:30 pm to allow a 2 hour
ride and time to ride home.
Meet at the Spinstreet Shop in Olde Towne at 5:30 Tuesday
3/31 for 2 hours of no drop intervals.
Meet at the Church of Christ at Cedar and College at 5:30 on
Thursday 4/2 for a 2 hour faster pace ride.
On location in New Mexico, Eric A. Phreed, Interim Director
Hi Eric! I’ve seen you out a few times so far. I am leaving
tomorrow to take my son to a soccer tourney in Dayton, OH. I won’t be able to
make the meeting or any rides this weekend. Sorry about that.
I plan on doing the training series in Waterford and hopefully
Ann Arbor. I don’t have my calendar set for anything else.
Thanks a lot!
Mike

The old website has expired which is good since the
old information was outdated. I need to hold a meeting this weekend.
Thursday, Friday or Saturday. I need everyone to agree on
something.
Racing starts at Waterford and then at Ann Arbor and
I would like to know who is planning on doing what races this spring. I
will be out of town at the end of March and beginning of April so I will miss
Fisk Knob TT as I stated earlier but I will be going to Willow, Kensington,
Superior Bike Fest, Cone Azalia and maybe Ann Arbor.
I would like to do a new website to have an online
presence and hopefully attract new riders etc. This all depends on how
many responses I get for a team meeting.
If you haven’t purchased a new license do so
now as it will take longer the closer it gets to the end of the month and more
people file. Thanks,
Eric A. Phreed, Interim Director, Team Venom
The 2009 Fisk Knob Time Trial is scheduled for Sunday, March 29.
Additional race information including the event flyer, online registration
details, and the course map are available for downloading or viewing at the
following link:
New for 2009! “Fast Photo Pro is proud to be the official photographers and
sponsors of the 2009 Fisk Knob time trial. We will be taking pictures of the participants throughout
the race. After the event, we invite you to view and purchase your

Fisk Knob provides the perfect opportunity to kick-off your 2009

your early season fitness at the “Knob.” But register early - Fisk
Knob has reached the registration limit prior to race-day the past two
seasons. So save yourself those late registration fees and ensure that
you're part of the competition. In addition, all pre-registered riders are included
in the raffle for numerous prizes and giveaways (last season, over 30 prizes
were raffled off).
