Just a reminder of this Saturday's Valentine's Day Massacre FUN outrigger canoe race down at Mission Bay (not in the ocean!). They will be racing no matter what the conditions are...rain, wind, or shine, but I know everybody is hoping for sunshine! I have received quite a few interested responses, all with the same question: "What do I wear?" Keep an eye on the weather...If it's like today (gorgeous!), then I would wear:
1. "quick dry" shorts and shirt (preferably long sleeve) and wind breaker before/after paddling. (When cotton gets wet, it gets heavy/chilly...It'll do though if that's all you have.)
2. flipflops (or reefwalkers)
3. bathing suit top or sportsbra underneath
4. hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
I wouldn't wear a wetsuit. Typically I wear paddling pants or paddling shorts, which are neoprene (wetsuit) material. And I wear a long sleeve quick dry shirt over a bathing suit top. Let me know if you have any other questions. A bunch of my teammates will be there, so please introduce yourself to anyone wearing "Oceanside Outrigger" paddle shirts and tell them that you know me. :) They are looking forward to introducing this fun sport to anybody new. Have fun!!!
