DETAILS: This Sunday we're riding everybody's favorite...through Camp
Pendleton!
This is
a great ride with gorgeous views and lightly traveled roads. We will
start from
Oceanside
Harbor overflow (free) parking lot, meeting at at the Harbor by 7:45
for an 8
a.m. roll-out.
We will all start together with two different pace groups (10 to 15
mph; 15 to
20 mph), and
will ride until each group wants to turn back. As always, no one will
be left
behind.
THE ROUTE: This route will take you through Camp Pendleton (10 miles
one-way from front to back gate), so you MUST BRING YOUR DRIVER'S
LICENSE to get onto the base. This section of the route includes some
moderate hill climbs (not easy, but not Torrey Pines scary). As we
exit through the back gate and up the hill, we will take a break in
the Las Pulgas Park n' Ride parking lot and see who would like to turn
back at this point and who wants to ride further towards San Clemente.
If you choose to ride further, you can expect small hills and more
gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean as we ride through the San
Clemente State Beach parking lots. We can stop again at the campground
entrance (8 miles from Las Pulgas Park n' Ride) to see who wants to
turn around or continue toward
San Clemente Sunday Farmer's Market where the route has more moderate
hills through the residential neighborhood (fun hills because you get
a "running" start!).
DIRECTIONS: To get to Oceanside Harbor Parking Lot, take Interstate 5
north to Oceanside Harbor Drive. Exit heading west. Turn left on
Carmelo Drive (before Del Taco).
The street
will wrap around and down into a large parking lot.
If you have any questions, feel free to email us! We hope to see a lot
of you
there!
