Tell ya what, since there seems to be interest, I'll make stretching the focus
on my next Science-Geek article in the Cycle U Newsletter. I've read a lot of
research on this issue, so can share what science knows. Unfortunately, science
doesn't know everything (gasp!)... I'm sure there is a lot of anacdotal advice
from all sides of this issue. It all comes down to knowing your body, listening
to it, and acting accordingly.
If you're not on the CycleU newsletter list and would like to be, you can email
me and I'll add you.
Thanks, Tammy

I have to agree with Tammy on this one: this fall I was diagnosed
with ilio-psoas tendonosis from pulling the i-p muscle too short
repeatedly in yoga last spring (duh! why did I persist??) and then
straining it all summer with tri-training. I've stopped doing yoga
altogether (and backed off on cycling and running, for the time being)
and am searching for a physical therapist... I do still stretch after
exercising, but cautiously.
The moral seems to be: BE REALLY CAREFUL if you're doing guided
stretching in a class. I'd be interested in other people's stretching
stories and advice--for instance, I've heard that one should never
stretch cold muscles (i.e. before embarking on a run). What else do
y'all know?
