Re: [TeamLUNAChix] Fw: Guide for a blind athlete for IM Lake Placid 2010

Hi Olga,

I forwarded to a couple of good friends of mine...Anna has done IM 3 years in a row, but is taking a break to have a baby - she may know someone who might be interested. Also, Michelle who did her first half IM in Victoria this year and is training for IM for next year. She is also a certified tri coach and as been racing for about 10 years...

Good luck!

Jocelyn

Hi a,,

Is anyone on the list (or anyone off the list you know) interested in guiding a blind female athlete at IM Lake Placid next year?  She is having some challenges in finding a female to train/compete with from this area.  Read on below for a description of what might be required, and if you are interested, email me directly and I'll put you in touch with Patricia.

Thanks,

Olga

Subject: Guide for a blind athlete for IM Lake Placid 2010

Hello All,

I a bit of a newbie on this list.   I’ve historically been more an endurance runner than a triatheloner.  I am transitioning to triathelons in order to take on a IM distance event.  I’m training to complete iron Man Lake Placid next year.

I’m a blind athlete planning to compete in the parathlete division.  Due to WTC regulations I am only allowed to enter in IM Lake Placid, and none of the races nearer to our vicinity.   Additionally WTC has regulations that require I be tethered to someone of the same sex throughout the duration of the race, and I will complete the bike section on a tandem bike.  I’m writing to ask if anyone from this list would be interested in being my guide.  I currently had a guide, Tanner Tennyson.  We discovered that we will be disqualified as he is a male guide.  I’ve been working with a nonprofit, C Different, which connects blind athletes with guides, they have 60 available male volunteers, and not one single lady who wants to complete the IM distance.  I’m hoping to find someone from my area to train with as there is some complexity in the communication and such when completing a long course.

Please let me know, if you, or anyone you know might be interested.  Your efforts would be greatly appreciated.

Patricia
