From the Catrike Forum...
This post below was in the e-newsletetr from Easy Street Recumbents (to
subscribe, email Mike at service@... and asked him to tack
you on to the list). This is concerning the HOT Rally in April 2010.
Heart of Texas Catrike rally
Easy Street will be hosting Texas' first triker rally on April 16-18,
2010, leading up to our annual 'Bent Event scheduled for April 18^th .
All trikers are welcome, but Catrike owners seem to have the most
/espirit de corps/, with a history of clubbing together like this. Kind
of like Harley riders, only much quieter and less rigidly gendered.
Details are still coming together, but this will be a paid admission
all-weekend event. We'll be working on discounted hotel accommodations
near the shop for out of town guests and meal deals. There will be some
short rides in Austin, some goofing about at the Austin Veloway,
freebies, a raffle, maintenance workshops, a groovy T-shirt (in a color
to match your trike) and other special stuff that you'll only know about
when you pre-register.
Stay tuned…

You can contact Bikes @ Vienna, www.bikesatvienna.com, in Vienna, VA for

I own a total of 5 trikes and need the room in the garage so I'm selling two.

Can't say enough about how greatful I am that Rails to Trails exists.
We just took our trikes on the back of our Sprinter "Sportsmobile"and road some
really great Rails to Trails rides. In Idaho we did the Route of the Hiawatha
and the Trail of the Coeur d' Alenes then we went to Glacier Natl Park and
because the Going to the Sun Highway had been shut down to motorized traffic for

A lot of fishing in between all that.
I have posted a pic of our van with the trikes on the back. It is a Draftmaster
two trike rack and works flawlessly as did our CATRIKE ROADS.
Please join Rails to Trails. There are non motorized trails all over this
country that Rails to Trails is responsible for.
Aloha from Washington State,
I'm new to this group and I just picked up my Trail from the bike shop this
weekend. I rode it for about 5 miles so far, and find that it is a little stiff
(thin tyres, rough dirt lane and road). I'm use to the Big Apple 2.35X26 on my
Cannondale tandem so this is really stiff. Has anyone mounted 2.00X20 Big Apple
tyres on the rear (the rim look real narrow)?
Additionally, has anyone changed out the gearing on their Trail to get a more
lower and higher gear? I have both long hills and long flats that I think I will
run out of gearing for...
Mahalo Nui Loa for your kokua on these subjects.

Lee,
On Oct. 24th, I am try to get together several catrike owners to ride
out at George Bush Park. From you it will be approx 1.5 hrs. Please
join us. The bike path is smooth and zero road traffic, unless we are
crossing a street. The route is 14+ miles one-way. The ride will most
likely be with other recumbent riders. If you are interested in join in
let me know I can email the location we will meet at.

Sorry I took so long to reply. Have
been on vacation. I ride around my neighborhood and to be honest am
somewhat skeptical of riding on the road with Texas drivers. We do not have
dedicated bike lanes like CA and the trike takes up quite a bit of space.
As long as I am in an area with a speed limit of around 30 and not much traffic
I am fine. I think riding in Bentwater should be OK, so if you come out
here give me a buzz. By the way I am 66 and my ave speed is around 11.5 –
12 mph and so far my rides are 1 hour, but I really like the trike and it sure
gets noticed.

I would consider using brightly colored streamers as you might find attached to a kite. Either tie the tail to the top of the pole, or cut the plastic streamers and tape them to the pole in varying lengths.

In my we took our family of 4 to Boston to ride in the Best Buddies challenge
fundraiser. We made custom flags by taking kid size Best Buddies t-shirts and
cutting them down to the logo on one side and the chapter listing on the other
side. We had a lot of comments about the "flags". The t-shirt material was white
so they are visible but not necessarily reflective.
I have seen many people putting streamers or windsocks on their poles. I found
that medium size binder clips work fine as a temporary mount for flags. A few
weeks back our LBS let us take a GTT tandem out for a few hours. I printed a
temporary flag, put it in a standard notebook sheet protector and clipped it to
the pole. Instant advertising.
We have also converted some of the sports team car window flags. We got some for
$1 each from the local high school and put the flag on when we're around town.
We live in Vienna, VA and ride mostly in locally sponsored rides and the
W&OD/Custis/4 Mile Run trails. Can you tell me how the C&OD trail is for trikes?
I've never done any distance on non paved trails.
How about telling us about your role as "Adventure Cycling Guide". I'd love to
hear more.

i have also gotten some scotch reflective tape from a local sign company and it works well. My pole has reflective bands on 3" centers and it really grabs any sort of light. I also have some of this tape on the back and sides of my helmet.
I also used to wear these glow gloves before my puppy decided they were fun to chew:

I would consider using brightly colored streamers as you might find attached to a kite. Either tie the tail to the top of the pole, or cut the plastic streamers and tape them to the pole in varying lengths.

My wife just got a catrike pocket to ride on the C&O Canal and Great Allegheny Passage. She is really enjoying it. I have a safety question. We need a flag for her bike because she is so low. I can get the orange triangle flag at the bike shop. But does anyone know where we can find something bright and stylish we can hang back there?
