Flat is good I keep a decent speed here in Plano, but when in Florida
where it's really flat have kept close +-2mph from 20 for 25+ miles.
Here in Plano I hold between 14 - 17 depending on terrain.

I personally recommend Sette sandals from Pricepoint.com. You just
cannot beat the price @ $29. That being said I have changed from the
SPD pedals to Crankbrothers Mallets. I was having some knee issues
with the SPDs, but no issues with the additional float on the
Mallets.

I take it you live in flat(ish) territory? I'm really feeling the weight of my new Expedition when climbing (where's the great-granny gear?). It doesn't help...
