Tire advice needed   Message List

Group: I am going on a three day trip next week and I need some tire
advice. As previously stated, I had Marathon slicks on my 2006 Road
when I got it. I wore them out. I rode mostly on highway, but also
on loose chat on bike trails. Never had a flat....Held up great. As
you know, they have discontinued the Slicks. So, they are history and
will just have to forget about them. Presently, I have a set of the
new Marathons with snakeskin tread. This is a super tire...very
stable, steers great....BUT...it is much slower than my Slicks. I
free coasted down a hill and there was about a 4-5 mph difference in
speed. So.....I guess I want the best of both worlds. What would you
recommend for my Road? I want a tire that can ocassionally be ridden
in loose chat...but I also want it to be a little faster than the
Marathons I have now.
