Re: Trikes

-Spencer: I had the same questions prior to buying my Road in 06.
I ride both trails and highway. I always use my flag and flashing
lights (front and back) I also have a mirror. I ride a 23 mile
loop once a week, which half is on the highway. I have NOT had one
close call yet. I keep an eye in the mirror when I notice someone
coming up from behind. I may zig zag a little to let them know I am
there...But still....no close calls on the hills and straightaways.
The only close call I have ever had actually was in a parking
lot...That is dangerous because people cannot see you at all.

As far as a good choice of trike......I rode three different
brands..and for the money Catrike is the best buy in design and
mechanics.... I also ride with several bikers.....and on the level
and downhill, I can stay up with all of them....of course going
uphill, you are at a disadvantage.....I just shift and take my
time....I will say this..the 20-40 mile ride is a piece of cake on
my Road. When all is said and done, I will take my Road over the
conventional bike for comfort, and the ability to sight-see alot
more. After you are in shape...it seems that you don't even notice
you are pedaling....too busy enjoying the land and the scenery. So
I guess you can tell that I am very happy with my Road.....For a
little bonus, I got up to 32mph on the flat and 48 mph on the
downhill..Not bad for a 62 year old guy??? I am not out to win any
races.....but wanted to push it a little...I know there are Catrike
guys that fly.....but for me I probably like the Road best because,
(1) I am getting exercise, and (2) what a way to sight-see...As a
matter of fact....I am leaving next weekend for the KAty Trail in
Missouri. My last advice is..decide how much you are willing to
spend, ride different brands, and decide which one you would think
works for you at that 40 mile ride. I am not trying to sell the
Road to you..but after all of a my studying and riding..by far the
best value!!! mike
P.S. Keep in mind the Road doesn't lay you back in the seat like
the Speed or the Expedition.......
