Thanks for sharing Dave. I just got my butt handed to me last Sun in
Albuquerque,NM when I missed a shift on the 250 Int start--not a good thing when
you're a new Int racer and spot everyone a 20+ yard lead on the way to the 1st
corner!
I spent the rest of the 1st moto fighting through the roost and managed to
catch a few guys before the checker.

Also a heavier detent spring replaces stock and a honda elsi thrust
washer shim is used on the trans main shaft. If you have the pattern
you can do this mod yourself with a die grinder. When I have the time
I'll put the pattern in the files section. With this mod you get Jap
bike quality shifting. Mike

I look forward to that! Hey what 125 do you own? I thought that CZ
was borrowed. I have seen you with so many different bikes it's
confusing. Are you going to Bodner Ranch AHRMA race? I have decided
to stay home and tend to all the crap I've got stirred up with E Bay

How fun must that be - like Christmas!

I guess I'm going to have to find a 250 (along with my own 125) so
we can mix it up!

Can't wait to see your creation!

It takes up a little end float that exists between 4th gear and the inner face
of the right side case journal. Don't confuse this with the kick start ratchet
shaft which has a similar thrust washer. Mike

I came face to face with a giant UPS truck partway up my driveway
tonight, and he had left a box of cool stuff from Hugh's Bultaco for
the M 135, which I have been calling the "Jimmy bike". There all
sorts of cool stuff for it, and the wheels and tires are ready to
go. I now own the correct front forks when they get here, and the
stock seat is due to arrive friday. Still holding off on tearing it
down for the frame paint as the aluminum swingarm from Novation is
still pending as are the works performance shocks from Vintage Iron,
are at least another week away or more. I need to mock it up real
solid before I do the final paint. It's nice to avoid the redo if
you can. I just received the new fenders from DC plastics. White
and shaped like stock. I didn't trust me not to crash damage a set
of fiberglass fenders that I had once considered. These look great.
It gonna' have a gold regina chain, and the stock size rear
sprocket, thumbs up grips, renthal high vintage bend 7/8"
handlebars, stock lever assys and gunnar gasser type throttle. Still
need a stocker type front number plate and air filter element.

I've seen a few of those items being sold by Hugh's on ebay.

There's certainly a much larger choice of designs than anything I've
every seen in the US. I think Hugh's may carry some of this, I haven't
asked Tim.

There was a pattern on the web page that I provided the link to. But it's only a
picture of
what appears to be a wooden pattern that you could print out and use as the
template.

Anyone know why Bultaco went with the shift drum pattern that they did? Was it
to slow
down the shifting (perhaps to protect the gears) or just to make neutral
"challenging"?

Mike, this is exactly the kind of stuff that makes these groups so
great. Good people sharin' and carin'. I look forward to the pattern post.
Why is a new thrust washer needed on the main shaft?

Also a heavier detent spring replaces stock and a honda elsi thrust
washer shim is used on the trans main shaft. If you have the pattern
you can do this mod yourself with a die grinder. When I have the time
I'll put the pattern in the files section. With this mod you get Jap
bike quality shifting. Mike

Tommy,

You are one of the few people I know that the term "If you want it
done right, you better do it yourself" applies. With your mechanical
apptitude and long years of being a machinist you can litarally
create any part you want to, and make it better, and I've seen your
work, it's beautiful.
