I got my $200 basket case M85 Alpina running. I rebuilt the motor and
it ran rich. The problem solved after another motor tear down. A small
piece of the old case gasket was stuck below the crank chamber letting
trans oil into the crank area. Said villian removed and she runns
great now. Still have to send the cylinder to Hughs to get a treaded
insert put it.
The Alpina is a great bike. I am realy impressed with the handling and
the suspention on the bike. I think it could be geared lower but that
is about my only compliant besides the threaded exhast flange. The
bike is a blast to ride. I kind of thought they were wimpy bikes back
in the day. I always liked the Fronteras for woods riding but I can
now see this was the hot set up for ridding in the woods. I can
remember going to the ISDT reunion ride in Dalton a couple of years
ago and seeing the Fishers fly on thier Alpinas. If you do not have
one of these bikes get one.
Next project is to finish my $50 192 Pursang that I rescued from a
junk yard. Any tips on these bikes would be apreciated.
