I'd like to see posts by those selling their Taurus Firearms. I'm always looking
to build
up my collection. But not posts like "looking for pt111 and only want to spend
150.
Email me."
So, if you want to sell, post, if you are looking to buy, wait till someone
posts about
selling theirs. and yes, follow all laws...blah blah...

I had to send my PT140 Millenium to Taurus (4 weeks
ago; the turnaround is 4 to 6 weeks)as the magazine
release button broke. I had perhaps 350 round through
it at that point; and I wonder if it had something to
do with the "oem" magazine I bought. It was stamped
"Made in Brazil" but the finish was not quite up to
the mag I got with the gun. I just couldn't get 10
rounds in it and it was harder to insert than the mag
that came with the gun. The second shot on this new
mag and the release button pops off!
Also, I was reading a gun mag test on he Kahr .40 and
their test gun (which sells for $550; about $200 more
than the millenium) broke it's mag release button too!
I'm hoping this is isolated just like the problems on
the net about polymer frame cracks, and broken plastic
frame pins).

Melissa... I have a PT-140 with about 1,000 rounds through it
with absolutely NO problem whatsoever.
My PT99 finally had a problem (after 20 years) and it's in Miami
now being repaired by Taurus.
I have may firearms by Taurus in all differing calibers and styles
and I wouldn't get rid of them for anything.

Buy the Millenium Pro!
Did you not check the trigger pull between the two
models? The DAO of the pull is much better (at least
when I tried out a Pro model next to the standard
model).
How is it possible that it is less expensive than the
standard, was it used? All of the Pros that I've
looked at were selling for about $50 more than the
standard.

I'm still looking for a good light carry gun and it looks like the
PT 111 is actually the lowest weight for the least price, before
hitting the Kel-Tec P-11 which some people say is not as
reliable.
So I was looking around and actually found a new Millenium Pro for
less money than a regular PT 111. But it weighs more.
What's so much better about a Pro that would make it worth the extra
weight?
Melissa,
Try a PT-140 or PT-145.
Nice Taurus Millennium products that work extremely well and
have much more stopping power than a 9mm.

I got my concealed carry license this week, so I wanted to go look
for a carry purse at the gun show today. The plan was to find
something big enough to carry my Para Ordnance 1445 LDA, which is my
favorite mama bear gun.
To facilitate that, I decided to toss it into my existing purse with
a loaded magazine and see if it all fit into whatever concealed carry
purse I could find that would do the trick.
But that experience has changed my mind! Ouch!
My purse is big and usually heavy enough, with all the stuff I carry
in there. ( don't ask ) But with the Para and 1 loaded 14 round mag
of .45 auto, oh jeez! I walked around that gun show for about 90
minutes, switching shoulders frequently to take the load off, and my
back was killin' me by the time I left!
So when I got home just now I weighed the purse with & without the
pistol and full mag. 4 lbs without, *8 lbs with! Ow!
Some of the purses I saw there were of adequate size to fit all my
stuff, IF I carry a smaller lighter pistol, but NO WAY with the Para.
It just won't fit the compartments they have for it.
Meanwhile I've been vacillating back and forth over whether to carry
the Para or something a little smaller and lighter like a Taurus PT
92. Nope. Not any more. My purse is too darn big and heavy as it is.
I think I'm going to go back to the gun shop and look at that Kel-Tec
P-11 this week.
It's better to learn this lesson in advance and not have to waste
backache and money finding out later. So the experience was valuable
today.
This was the first time I ever did purse carry and it certainly feels
different, sorta wakes up your day realizing you're carrying lethal
force around like that. Takes a little getting used to, but I'm fine
with that part. Just don't bust my back with a 4 lb pistol.

I had to send my PT 140 Millenium back to the factory.
AFter a couple of weeks, I called them and was
relieved that they did in fact have it on record, but
was told the turn around is 4 to 6 weeks. Mine should
be a simple repair (broken mag release button) but as
Taurus has a lifetime warranty on the gun (not to the
original owner)I would imagine they keep busy.
Taurus has an extraordinary number of handguns, and
with their lifetime warranty I do not feel it's fair
to compare them to say, a gunmaker that only offers a
one year warranty, or a lifetime original owner
warranty....
Also (and list members should record this) they do
have a toll free number it is:
1-800-327-3776
I was also in a bit of a panic after I sent my gun in
as the UPS receipt had a city other than Miami. The
Zip code is actually Hialeah AKA Miami Lakes. On the
warranty card (and when you call for service info) the
service rep says it's Miami, Florida. I'm sure it
makes sense if you live there....

I've got three Taurus revolvers and never had a transfer bar break.
My .41 tracker has had about 3000 rds through it easy.
Would it be possible for you to post some close up photos of the
broken part? I'm curious where the stress point is.
Have you tried changing any other parts? My first inclination is to
assume it's the hammer striking the bar in an odd way.
Do you know if the transfer bar is heat treated? Not taht it should
be, but I am curious if it's a heat treated part.
What was Taurus' attitude about it? Did they think it was unusual or
just typical?
You said 900-1000 rds it breaks -- what does it look like at 500
rds?
I'm not a gunsmith, I just play one on TV. No really, I'm a
mechanical engineer and I have some experience with metallurgy.

Hey folks.. Glad to have found you.
I've got several Taurus pistols and revolvers and love them. My
favorite is my .41 Tracker in stainless. Even the wife likes to
shoot that, it's so darn nice.
I'm contemplating purchase of either a 650 or 651 for carry. The
issue is the action and trigger for the 650 for me. If the 650 DAO
trigger is just as heavy as the 651, there's no point in getting the
650 for me.
I like the 651 having a traditional double action, but if the 650's
DAO trigger is much lighter (7-8 lbs) then I'd rather get that one.
Can anyone comment?
Does anyone have numbers on "factory" trigger weights for the 650 and
651?
Best regards..
issa
That's the ones!
Hopefully they'll do me good. I'll report back
to the list as soon as I get any news.
Thanks !

Are you speaking of the ears on the locking block? Mine broke on my 92
stainless with 2,600 rounds through the gun. I have heard rumors that
Taurus has problems with their metallurgy, and this is a known weak point.
Taurus "service" was very poor. I've dealt with service at a bunch of gun

Hey gang,
Just a little note. My PT99 (1984) finally had a problem
that is requiring a trip to Miami for repair.
At the range the slide jammed and would not release.
After making sure there were no rounds in it (sure was a
good time to be counting!) we screwed around with it just
enough that the danged thing finally came free.
I'd thought the firing pin broke but it seems that one of
the two black pot-metal retaining pieces that hold the
firing mechanism together broke and jammed inside the slide.
Taurus should have it in their hot little hands tomorrow (Monday).
I'll update everyone as to how their service is these days.

You can post info about where you can purchase Taurus firearms for a good
price here, and as long as the list does not turn into a spam list of
people looking for fairarms then I do not see a problem with asking for prices.
Please make sure that all local and federal laws are followed

Greetings!
I just posted a photo of my new PT100. It's my 10th pistol and the
clear favorite! It shot well the first time out. After 1,000
rounds of so this will be shooting as sweet as it looks!
40Cal
I had the firing pin spring on my Model 66 break yesterday.
This happened late in 1999, after 10+ years of intermittant light use.
I shipped it in to Taurus, got it back fixed a month later. Now it's
happened again, after 3.5 years of light intermittant use.
This time _I_ decided to try to fix it, rather than pay next day
shipping to get it to Taurus. It's fairly easy to get to (take side
plate off, remove hammer, drift out retaining pin, remove firing pin).
The spring was mashed down and broken into two pieces. I couldn't
find any springs short and narrow enough, so I'll have to order out.
Does this happen a lot? Should I pick up some extras?

If someone bought the stainless model and the sight wasn't black,
could they get it blackened ( blued? ) by a gunsmith for not too much
money?

Well Spike, which ones are yours? We were talking about the 92/99 series
pistols and I believe they are stainless. After looking at their web page
it does look like they put some black sights on their pistols other than the
92/99 (and 100/101) series pistols (about time). I would guess yours is one
of the others.
