Ed Eckhoff is hosting a Rimfire Seminar and Familiarization shoot this
Sunday at 7:30 at the silhouette range. There will be an informal shoot
at paper and reactive targets from 40 to 200 meters immediately
following the seminar. $15 payable at the silhouette range.
This is prep for the Nor-Cal Rimfire Tactical matches starting in 2009.
This should be a great way to practice slung prone and the other
unsupported shooting positions. Also if you have any rifle or equipment
questions I'm sure Ed or other participants will be able to answer them.
Bring what you have.
Call Ed directly at 530-661-6018 or cell: 530-681-2447 if you have any
questions.

Look under General Discussions for the thread on the Sierra Group Buy.
Prices are listed on the thread.
I will take orders up to the beginning of November and be asking for
payment then as well.
Just keep in mind you have to be a paid member of NCPPRC to participate
in this group buy.
Thanks,

Do you know how to range with mildots? Do you have a mildots master? I can take the Leupold off my Remmy since I'm not shooting that for the match, and you could use the scope just for the ranging exercises. I agree with the others, do not try to change scopes now. But the Loopy is available either way.
If you're anywhere near Shingle Springs / Folsom, I could get it to you tomorrow so you can practice ranging with it.
Give me a call in the a.m. at 916-718-4112. I'll take it to work with me.
Hello everyone, Is there anyone that can help me out. I'm in the match this weekend and I looked at the COF from last year and have no way of figuring out how to measure multiple distances with the scope that I'm using. I always use a range finder when I'm out in the field. LRFs will not be allowed on that stage. I do not have or use a mil dot scope, the scope that I have been using is a 9 x 18 Leupold 3 with deplex reticle. If anyone has a mil dot spotting scope that I can borrow for the match that would be very appreciated. If anyone has any ideals please feel free to let me know. Thanks Keith

Roger that! Don't mess with your scope at this stage in the game...
If the rules allow it, one possible solution would be binoculars or a
spotting scope with a Mildot reticle. If somebody's got a Mildot
scope that not attached to a rifle, you could even use that. Or ask
for an exemption to use somebody else's rifle for that stage.
Last year, the optical ranging stage was a non-firing stage. So you
might not need Mildots that go "Bang!"
I'll be thinking of you guys...
Have fun!
Richard.
P.S. The "Shooter Ready" computer game is good training for Mildot
ranging. You can get it at: http://www.shooterready.com/

It is my understanding that the ballistic properties of the .260 are similar to a .300 win. mag.. It is a short action caliber with less recoil and has a flatter trajectory than the .308. I have an AI stock and the .260 fits in the AI magazines as well. Hope that helps. Someone with more ballistics knowledge can give you the technical details. Many top shooters are also using the .260.
Greg W. shoots a 6.5 x 47 and has been getting excellent results. Thus, you may want to speak with him about that caliber as well.

Shawn,
I was reading up on the .260. Looks like a great round. The reason I was leaning towards the.308 was tha quality ammo was plentiful and most production tactical rifles were chambered in this cartridge.
May I ask what prompted you to go with a .260?
Thanks.

Just to give you an idea....308win with factory ammo in my FN is 39MOA to 1K. My 260rem does it in 28MOA to 29MOA.
However you must pay for this performance with barrel life. 308 5K to 6K peek. 260rem is maxed out at 2500 maybe 3000.
Post on the forum and you will get more answers.

If you want a good factory shooter, some guys have been successful with the Remington 700 "5R". They aren't plentiful, but you can find one if you try.

You can discuss everything you need there with all of our local shooters.
Personally if you are going to go AI or TRG dollars I would go full blown custom build at that point.

Chamber and magazine empty.
Hammer cocked.
Safety on.
Turn rifle upside down and put the rear of the receiver cover on a table/counter (preferably on a block of wood), and push down hard on the trigger guard.
I just did with mine after getting your email to make sure it works. The spring is pretty stiff.
