Do you know how to range with mildots? Do you have a mildots master? I can take the Leupold off my Remmy since I'm not shooting that for the match, and you could use the scope just for the ranging exercises. I agree with the others, do not try to change scopes now. But the Loopy is available either way.
If you're anywhere near Shingle Springs / Folsom, I could get it to you tomorrow so you can practice ranging with it.
Give me a call in the a.m. at 916-718-4112. I'll take it to work with me.
Hello everyone, Is there anyone that can help me out. I'm in the match this weekend and I looked at the COF from last year and have no way of figuring out how to measure multiple distances with the scope that I'm using. I always use a range finder when I'm out in the field. LRFs will not be allowed on that stage. I do not have or use a mil dot scope, the scope that I have been using is a 9 x 18 Leupold 3 with deplex reticle. If anyone has a mil dot spotting scope that I can borrow for the match that would be very appreciated. If anyone has any ideals please feel free to let me know. Thanks Keith

Thanks for the link.my friend is building a riffle in this caliber and he ask me if anyone in the group knows or heard anything about this new .338 Norma, below is an email from him with a little infomationabout what he knows about this cartridge.
thanks Keith
It's a new cartridge that's being producted by Norma (Jimmy Sloan design) so that's why not too many people know about it. Only Black Hills Shooters Supply is distributing the brass. It's going commercial at a rapid pace and is essentially going to bypass the 338 Lapua once it gets out and known a little more. I just wanted to know if someone has played with the cartridge or did a little research on it yet.
Some people might confuse it with a necked up 308 norma mag....but it's a totally different cartridge....essentially a necked down shortened and fattened version of the 338 lapua.

that link didn't look like it worked. i'll try it again:
it doesn't look like it is going to work this time either. you can cut and paste the whole http. in your brouser and it should work. if not, the thread title is .338 norma mag in the "beyond 1000 yards" on sniper's hide. the thread has been near the top for the last few weeks.

I've never heard of a .338 Norma Mag; there is a .358 Norma Mag. I'm a 35 fan, and I believe the .358 Norma Mag is a good cartridge. With a 225 gr. Triple Shock bullet it's easily a 300yd. hunting rifle. Last year I shot an elk at 310 yd.using a 350 Rem Mag and that bullet. Buy it!

In December we will have a 70 round COF for our 2008 Top 20 Shoot
Off. There will be one trophy and the top dog takes it home. Maybe a
side match of 5.00 per shooter?
Everyone will be able to shoot next month but only the top 20 will be
in the running for the Shooter of The Year title. I am thinking a Tri
Tip BBQ to finish off the year.
Some interesting stats for 2008.
This year we had 88 different shooters on our firing line during our
matches.
Total number of shooters that shot our monthly match was 366. I am
sure these numbers may be higher because we sometimes miss the guys
that only shoot or two matches with us on the stat sheet.
366 shooters Xs 50 rounds per match = 18,300 rounds down range NOT
including practice sessions. I am willing to bet our group put down
30,000 + rounds down range this year.
Joe Ducos shot the highest score for 2008 in January - 447 2X
The top 20 this year was seperated by 1128pts which is not a whole
lot if you think about it.

Hmmm... The original announcement for this match said that it was limited to 22LR only. Did the rules change?

Ed Eckhoff is hosting a Rimfire Seminar and Familiarization shoot this
Sunday at 7:30 at the silhouette range. There will be an informal shoot
at paper and reactive targets from 40 to 200 meters immediately
following the seminar. $15 payable at the silhouette range.
This is prep for the Nor-Cal Rimfire Tactical matches starting in 2009.
This should be a great way to practice slung prone and the other
unsupported shooting positions. Also if you have any rifle or equipment
questions I'm sure Ed or other participants will be able to answer them.
Bring what you have.
Sling shots? Yard darts? So many possibilities.....
