Hello Coaches of TEXAS Youth Ultimate,

FINALLY we have a clinic that will certify coaches in TEXAS. GOOD JOB Cara!
Attempts to certify coaches over the past two years have cancelled due to lack
of interest. It has been years since we hosted a Texas Clinic, and we are in
DESPERATE need of coaches, as our programs devlelop all over the Lone Star
State. We anticipate a 20 team High School tournament this year!

If you are wishing to attend the Level I training in Austin on February 7th, but
unable to afford the registration fee, we are willing to sponsor coaches who are
committed to Texas, Ultimate! As the REGISTRATION DEADLINE for the clinic is
January 26th, we expect an immediate response.

For your information, UPA certification in NOT required to coach in our leagues,
clinics, camps, or the annual LONE STAR State High School Ultimate Tournament.
However, all coaches could benefit from the ethics workshop (due to the nature
of the social traditions of our sport), and are encouraged to earn
certification. UPA certified coaches are required to travel with Texas,
Ultimate! teams to UPA Sanctioned competition on the National level.

=======================================

To apply for a coach training scholarship for the 2009 UPA COACHES WORKSHOP AND
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING, please compose an e-mail introducing yourself (name,
age, city), reviewing your playing experience (league, college, present
involvement) and describing your commitment to the development of YOUTH Ultimate
in Texas. We would expect at least a two year commitment (which is the length
of the certification). That application mail should be sent to Barry Wible
(barry_wible@...),
and copied to both Barbara Denison (txultimate@...),
and Bill Marriott (wmarriott@...).

Here is a link to the Ultimate Players Association website for more information
http://upa.org/coaches/clinics

We will inform the recipients of our decision regarding scholarship on Monday
morning, as the deadline for registration is midnight on January 26th.

I apologize for the short notice... APPLY NOW!

Subject: Fw: REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED ... 2009 Austin High School Winter League

Folks,

We had a great turnout at this afternoon's organizational meeting ... but we're greedy (i.e., WE WANT EVEN MORE PLAYERS)!!!  So, what we've decided to do is extend the registration deadline through this coming Saturday, January 24, 2009.

Following are the breakdown of players that have already registered from each school group (with the anticipated number following in parenthesis):

1.  Anderson High School - 4 players registered (potentially there will be up to 12 players).

2.  Austin Area Home Schoolers - 12 players registered (potentially there may be 14 - 15 players).

3.  LBJ (LASA) High School - 23 players registered (potentially there will be up to 30 players).

4.  McCallum High School - 0 players registered (we are hoping that 10 - 20 players may be able to join us).

5.  Travis High School - 1 player registered (potentially there will be up to 4 players).

6.  Waldorf School - 0 players registered (but there is a roster of 11 players that we're hoping will join us).

Decisions that were made at today's meeting (by participating captains) are as follows:

1.  All player names will be thrown into a hat with teams being formed via a draft system.

2.  Each team will have a minimum of 12 players on its roster.  The number of teams formed will depend on the total number of players participating in the league.

3.  All attempts will be made to ensure an equitable split of more skilled through beginner players on each roster.  Furthermore, each team will have an equal number of male/female players so that the gender ratio on the field will be the same (regardless of which teams are playing).

4.  Games will be played at either Austin High School (1st choice) or Travis High School (2nd choice).  We will pin down the location later this week.

5.  Teams will meet on Sunday afternoons in February 2009 (as outlined below) for the 4-week league regular season.  Warm-up activities will run from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  The time slot for the 1st game each week will be from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.  The time slot for the 2nd game will be from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

6.  The tournament date will be Sunday, March 1, 2009 (with more details to follow).

If you would still like to register for the league, please follow the instructions given at the following link: http://www.ultimatespirit.org/gpage1.html

Please mail your registration materials, including the league fee of $30, so that they are received no later than Saturday, January 24, 2009.

League teams will be announced soon after we've received all player registrations.

Most likely that announcement will be made on Sunday, January 25, 2009.

We're looking forward to an exciting league season and hope that you are as well!!!  If you have any questions/comments/concerns whatsoever, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Thanks,

LBj has an alumni coach. Andrew Foley is a player at UT.
I saw that Kevin Korte responded to you mail.

We placed the information about winter league on the websits, now we are waiting
to see who really wants to play.

Some of the tabs need a little tweeking, but the basic information is there.
Check it out, and see what your players want to do.

Registration deadline is in mid January. All of you....tell us what you
want for winter league. The location is NOT set in stone. We will see who

YOU CAN EARN PE CREDIT FOR PLAYING ULTIMATE!

Presently, ULTIMATE is being offered on the LBJ/LASA Campus in Austin, TX.

We will play for two hours after school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from
4pm until 6pm each day---for the entire Spring semseter. You must want to
attend with 90% efficiency.

You will have to keep a notebook, and take some tests. The class is offered
pass/fail and gives credit, but does not affect your GPA. After School PE
credit allows for a free period during the day for all year, allowing for
another very interesting course of study to be added to you schedule. You can
earn PE CRedit for all THREE required credits, taking the class for the spring
semesters during your HS career.

I will be hosting a practice at LBJ/LASA TOMORROW, Friday. Meet me in the
cafeteria after school. We'll talk for a few minutes, fill out paperwork, and
then go out to the field to play.

Here is the link to the forms that must be filled out. The forms are due on
December 16th, so the clas will show on your schedule when you come back on
January 6th.

http://www.austinisd.org/academics/docs/pe_OCPE_ApplicationOnly_20070308.pdf>

Many of you get your PE Credit for Band. SO, if you want to just come and
play. DO IT! I am hoping to recruit some new players from LBJ. We will
play on the field around 4:00pm. We can play until 5:30.

Happy HOLIDAZE!

Due to the overwhelming LACK of response, I did not put money down for fields
for an Ultimate THANKSGIVING SATURDAY.

I have heard that some of you are scheduling scrimmages, and I encourage you to
use this holiday weekend to get together. Representatives of eight teams are
on this list...feel free to communicate with those teams here.

WE had a good meeting in Austin yesterday, 2pm, at Zilker PARK. What a
beautiful day! The group broke up at dark...a four hour experience!

Houston was well represented last weekend at our Columbus Event. It looks like
MORE TEXAS teams for the STATE Tournament in April.

So, use the list...play some Ultimate, and LET me know if you want to put a team
in the DFW High School Winter League. We will select location based on who
responds. Right now, we have a cluster in Plano.

I will plan another date for us to meet sometime before the holiday break.

Happy Thanksgiving!

There's no school on Wednesday, November 26th ... so come play pickup at Zilker Park!!!

Here are details for this pickup game:

Date: Wednesday, November 26th

Time: start gathering at 2:00 pm ... play until dark

Location: Zilker Park (by the rugby pitch/train station).  Entry is located on the south side of Barton Springs Road before you get to Robert E. Lee Road (if you're coming in from the west).  It will be past Robert E. Lee if you're driving from the east.  When you pull in, park in the lot directly in front of you; the fields will be immediately adjacent to this parking lot.

This pickup game will also serve as a discussion forum for players/teams interested in participating in the upcoming Austin High School Winter League season!

So, if you're interested in playing high school winter league, plan to come yourself (or send a representative from your school).  That discussion will take place toward the end of pickup so plan your arrival accordingly (i.e., if you're not able to come earlier and participate in pickup).

We look forward to seeing you out there!

Thanks,

Bill Marriott

I have two pair of cleats that I bought and used just enough that I
couldn't return them. They could both use good homes. One is a pair
of size 13 Puma turf cleats and the other is a pair of size 13 Under
Armour Hammer football cleats. Please reply if you have or someone you
know has giant feet like me and needs a pair of cleats.

Thanks,

Hey, DFW!

WE are hosting an event on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
I can reserve the fields in Plano, but I am wondering if another location is
better. Is there a school who would like to host and invite us all to their
campus? Greenhill, Flower Mound, Southlake, Plano West, Shepton, Cistercian,
THE POLO FIELDS?

Are you all playing Ultimate? Are you getting ready for Winter League?
If I have blind copied you on this list, please subscribe

Jackie,

Excellent that you will be traveling to Columbus! And a good question about
team registration.

We require club registration for participation in Winter leagues or the STATE
Tournament. We consider our fall recruitment time. Many teams do NOT have the
leadership in place to file a team application at this point.

However, if you pay it now, you will not have to pay it later. You may
indeed include your team application with your registration for this tournament.

Does Bill have your roster? We are looking forward to a GREAT day in
Columbus....the CrossRoads of Texas.

Note: forwarded message attached.

We will meet at the fields on Robert E. Lee tonight in Zilker Park.   Robert E. Lee if off of Barton Springs Rd. at the east edge of Zilker Park.  It begins at Barton Springs Rd. and heads south, so if you are coming from Mopac go past the playscape (on the right) and turn right at the next light.  You will see a parking lot and the fields on the right just a little ways down the road.

When I talked to the park department today, they told me that those fields are part of the public park system and available to the public when not reserved.  They are used for flag football Mon.-Thurs., and there is no reservation tonight.

One important clarification here--everyone is invited tonight to join the Homeschool Activites Club.  We have been meeting at the park for years for games.  Right now we just happen to enjoy Ultimate and invite our Ultimate friends.   If anything comes up at the park, I am the contact.

We meet from 4:30-dark for Ultimate w/ the HSA club.  After that there is a meeting for the steering committee for the Ultimate league.

thanks

The fields that we met on last month, next to the disc golf course, are not available now that they have the Zilker Christmas tree up.  They are beginning to set up for the Trail of Lights but it was still open this afternoon, and we might be able play on the soccer fields.  I'm checking on that &  the availability of the fields on Robert E. Lee (don't if there is a fee) tomorrow morning.   That person was already gone for the day today.

We meet from 430-6:00 for Ultimate.   There is a meeting for the steering committee for the high school  league afterwards.   Interested teams are sending representatives.

I'll post the update by noon tomorrow so please check your email before heading out!

WE have commitment from several teams, but Bill and I have not asked questions
about the proposed rosters.

Who is coming to Novmeber 9's! It only take 9 to make a roster! We suggest
that each team should recruit a couple of ladies.

If we can get two divisions...we will play the teams with ladies in one pool.

The fields are sweet, and the date is rapidly approaching.

CHECK out our website for information about registering a roster for NOVEMBER

Next Friday, 11/7, is our 1st Friday Homeschool Ultimate game at Zilker Park. We invite interested players to join us.   We will be across the street from Rock Island on the south side of Barton Springs Rd.  This is the field next to the disc golf area.    We will arrive at 4:30 and play until dark, about 6:00-6:15 probably. The game is  for ages 12 & over.   Most likely there will be a younger group playing disc games there as well.

To get there:  Coming from Mopac and heading east on Barton Springs Rd. towards Lamar, turn right on Stratford Lane and turn right again on the first road.   The road runs parallel to Barton Springs Rd. heading towards the access road for Mopac and to the disc golf course.  There are two reservable picnic areas on the right Rock Garden Picnic Area &  Polo Tables Picnic Area.   Park in either of those parking areas and we will meet in the field between there and Barton Springs Rd.

Hope you can join us!

Columbus sailed the Ocean blue.

Who played when we had a day off school? It was a perfect day for Ultimate! We
hope that you are using the fall to recruit and organize your players. We
suggest setting a regular weekly time to play.

HEADS UP! for a November 9's event in Columbus, TX. Columbus, the Crossroads of
Texas, is midway between Austin and Houston...an easy travel for teams from BOTH
cities. Our intent is to host an event where rosters are limited to 9 players.
Perhaps you school can even field two teams?

And, for those teams/schools in North Texas,
we anticipate holding an event in early December.

Stay tuned as we nail down the dates.

Who wants to play on Columbus Day?

We have new teams developing in addition to those who are already playing. I have heard interest from some groups, but we need a location to meet that accomodates our wide geography.

Captains, can you please check with your players, and post to this list who might be interested to play all day on a day when we would usually be in school?

PLEASE, respond to this list, so that we may set location(s) to accommodate our players.

A local disc seller sponsored the UPA Regional Tournament that was held in Austin this weekend. Just use coupon code DNFS9X on the website or mention it at the store. This expires on Halloween.
