All are encouraged to renewmembership to the UPA or,
JOIN for the very first time!

Join, NOW at http://upa.org.

THIS is the best time to join the UPA!
You get 13 months for the price of 12,

Youth are strongly encouraged to join as many players
as possible at each of their schools.
Youth membership is only $20 annually. If we host a

<<<Expanded Level I Coaching Program

First, we’ve trained three new instructors and plan to
expand the number of clinics we run to 18-20 in 2006!
So please welcome our new instructors, Dan Raabe
(Madison, WI), Ben Van Heuvelen (Washington, DC), and
Josh Seamon (St. Johnsbury, VT)!

UPA Spirit of Coaching

Second, we’ve developed a UPA Spirit of Coaching which
has been approved by the UPA Board of Directors. This
document pertains to all coaches in Ultimate and makes
clear the role of coaches in Ultimate as it relates to
maintaining and fostering the spirit of the game. The
Spirit of Coaching was developed using discussion that
took place at our coaching clinics throughout the
country. Your participation and input made this
possible! Check out the Spirit of Coaching at
www.upa.org/coaches/spirit.

Level II Coaching Program Development

We are in the process of developing a Level II
Coaching Program that should be available by early
2007. The program developers are Eileen Murray
(Atlanta, GA), Dan Cogan-Drew (Somerville, MA), John
Sandahl (Minneapolis, MN), and Sam O’Brien (Seattle,
WA). The Level II program looks to be an exciting way
to improve your knowledge of higher level Ultimate
coaching, strategy, and skills!

Improved Level I Program

We have made some additional improvements in our
coaching manual and the clinics themselves based on
feedback from the clinics. In early January, those
coaches whose certification has expired will be
removed from the coaching corps yahoogroup and the
updates will be posted. Which brings us to:

Level I Recertification

We have created a recertification process for Level I
coaches whose certification has expired. In order to
learn more about this process please check out
www.upa.org/coaches/recertification!

If you have any questions regarding the GAIA-UPA
Coaching Corps please don’t hesitate to contact me!
Thank you for your continued support of the GAIA-UPA

No, sorry, I meant Columbus Day! I guess Columbus
was not a president. But, we will play on October
10th. If too many respond, we will move to Zilker
Park. It is moving in that direction. Teachers
have inservice in our district, but the kids have off.

We want to play all day on October 10th. 10am-2pm.

At Travis HIGH.
Now, who's in?

I have Monday the 10th off and I am going to play, and I don't care what the day is! Actually, if you were talking about the 10th, I think its a Staff development day?

Anyway, as many people as I can get out of bed from LBJ will be there.

Lisa, are you and Michael getting my e-mails? (I think I have sent two this past week) If you all are going to be at Travis, do you just want to play our game then and there? Can't wait to hear from you.

Pick-up, or even a hat tournament??? will be held at
Travis High beginning at 10 am. Who's in?

I imagine we can play until 2pm.We need to be off of
the fields before the teachers are released from
in-service meetings.  They have athletic practices
scheduled.

BRING YOUR PLAYERS. Let's recruit!   Adults have been
volunteering to teach, so captains can just play for a
day.

Peace,
Barbara

Thanks to those who have already volunteered.

Positions are still open. We especially need someone
who can spend time at Dobie Middle School and Travis
High School. Those programs are sponsored by a Federal
Grant, and we need to find volunteers to run those
programs to keep the money in those schools and keep
the money being spent on Ultimate.

We will hold another training session next week, time
and location still to be decided. The agenda will
last about two hours, require you to fill out a
background check, and go over policies and procedures
for volunteering to coach Ulimate.

We will implement a spirit-based curriculum that has
been developed through Youth InterACTIVE. It
generally develops leadership among the students. We
hope that as adults we allow the players to accept
responsibility for all aspects of playing the sport
and just provide guidance and assistance in developing
that leadership.

PLEASE, Volunteer to spend some time teaching Ultimate
to our youth.

Peace,
bubba

HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS!

Register for league, and let me know if you need help.
RB has a high school team from Keller. I think there
are players in Grapevine and Lewisville. There is at
least one player in Glen Rose.

Peace,
Bubba

Registration is now open for Fall league. Registration
will run through
September 9th on our website
(http://fortworthultimate.com). Fees this
season have been reduced to encourage more
participants ($15 for non LMRA and $10 for LMRA
affiliates). Spread the word.

Can I have a head count of who is planning to be at
Travis High School tomorrow? Play begins at 4:30 and
goes until 6:00.

Travis High School is at 35 and Oltorf, just south of
Riverside Drive. We will play on the outfield of the
baseball field. Exit Oltorf, stay on the service road
through the light and turn right into the parking lot
just after Denny's, the field will be on the left.

For complete directions and a map, go to austinisd.org
and look at the list of schools. Click on Travis
High, and you can see a map to the campus. We will
have a new team at Travis High. Let's show these new
players a fine example of Austin High School Ultimate.
COME PLAY, and be ready to welcome a new player to
AAHSUL.

Peace,
Bubba

GREAT!

If RB captained a team last season, lets gie more high
school team together for this season. It would be
great if we could have a league where y'all play
against each other. I'll alert the league director.
Let's see how many high school teams we can get.

Captains...can you check with your players and see who
can play in the Fort Worth League?

Let me know if you have a team---reply to this post if
you think your team can play!

Hope that helped,
RB
