RE: [TXUltimate] Age requirements challenged...

I appreciate your passion, RB. Rants are welcome
here. This is a forum for discussion and opinion...

So far, we have one in favor of allowing players to
come back (Deer Park), and one opposed (Keller).

As we struggle to gain participantion in our sport, we
are trying to do what is best to help us grow.
Texas is a huge geographic challenge, and we have less
teams here. The objective is to grow and build.
We are attempting to be legitimate in our own right,
while maintaining the integrity of our sport, as set
forth by our founding fathers.

I should point out that we could not have a team of
ONLY freshmen, because we would hold players to each
of their respective schools. And, by
participating, we hope that those experienced players
would mentor the team, not take over the play.

Coaches, yes, of course! ...the questions is should
we allow those who are younger than 20 to play as
well? It appears that Keller wants to NOT have
alumni playing in the STATE tournament. Thanks for
the feedback, RB.

Many on this list do not know RB. He trained as a UPA
volunteer in 2004, and has been working to build
Ultimate at his school, west of Fort Worth. His team
was a participant in the 2004 Austin Clinic. They
played as Freshmen, against the much older LBJ team.
Only those two schools had full teams in attendance
in 2004.

Keller did not attend the 2005 tournament (5 teams)
held in Austin, nor did they make an appearance in
College Station for the 2006 tournament (12 teams).
Hopefully, we will see more of Keller in the upcoming
year.

We would love to have Keller participating in league
play in this winter in the DFW area (perhaps even
hosting a few games...I hope teams will travel a
bit...), and we look forward to seeing Keller in
College Station in April.

Thanks, again, RB.

Peace,
bubba

In my opinion alumni playing with their former high schools is a travesty, and hinders the growth and acceptance of Ultimate. I feel this way for two simple...
