May Century Ride Announcement

Hey everyone!

Winter is finally over and the first MN TriClub Century Ride of 2008 is coming up on Saturday, May 24th! We need to know if you’re coming along for the ride.  All are welcome: MN TriClub members and non-members alike.  As with all of our Century Rides, it’s fully supported with snacks and fluids supplied on the course.  And this year we’ll be having an extra special bonus thanks to our new Social Activities Committee: a free pancake brunch to help your refuel when you are done with your ride!

In case you haven’t heard, the Liberty Tri (held on June 14th and Directed by our own MN TriClub President, Brian Rosenberg) has a brand new bike course in 2008 for both race distances.  The MN TriClub Century Ride will be an excellent time to preview and ride this course so that you’ll be better prepared for race day!  Even if you’re not doing the Liberty Tri, the course is a lovely ride through the countryside.  Our ride will consist of an approximately 25 mile loop on the Liberty Tri bike course.  You can do as many loops as you feel up to. At two points along this loop, at the start and around mile 14, we will have aid stations with energy bars, gels, water, Gatorade powder, fruit, pretzels, cookies, extra bike tubes, CO2 cartridges, sun block and more.  All you need to do is ride and have fun.  When you’re done riding, there will be pancakes and juice waiting for you (served from shortly after 10 am until about 2 pm).  This ride is always well attended, so don’t be left out!

Below are all the specifics YOU’LL need to know about the ride, but first WE need to know if you’re coming so we can buy enough “stuff” for every rider.  So please RSVP today to Art while you’re thinking about it.

WHAT: MN TriClub Century Ride
WHEN
: Saturday, May 24th @ 7:30 am sharp!
WHO: MN TriClub members (free) and anyone else interested in riding ($10 for non-members and $5 for TCMC members).  A liability form for non-members is attached (MN TriClub members do not need to sign this form, but all others do including TCMC members).  It can be filled out on your computer and then printed.  Please print it, sign it and bring it along with your payment (exact change greatly appreciated) to help speed up the registration process and get you out on the course quicker.
WHERE: Baker Park Reserve (Click For Directions) When you enter the main gates, turn right, and go down the hill. Take your first left and park.  Meet at the park no later than 7:15 am (earlier is much better) and gather for a list of instructions, to get your map of the route and to pay your fee/sign a waiver if you are not a MN TriClub member.

PANCAKE BRUNCH:  Pancakes and juice are included with your participation on this ride.  The cooks will start cooking at 10 am and make their last batch at 2 pm.  Stop by the Driftwood picnic shelter and refuel!

All riders of all abilities are welcome to join us. The only thing we absolutely require are bike helmets, although eye protection (sunglasses) and sunscreen (at least SPF 30) are strongly, strongly encouraged.  Also, bring as many water bottles as your bike can carry as well as an extra tube or two.  And finally, if it’s going to be extremely hot, it’s also a good idea to bring an electrolyte replacement (like Endurolytes or salt tablets) and some gels (GU, Hammer Gel, etc.) along.  Bonking is not fun, so be a prepared triathlete!

Please RSVP for this ride by Wednesday, May 22nd to Art (Art15651@frontiernet.net).

Future MN TriClub Century Ride dates: June 22, July 26, August 24, September 13

Happy training!
