Dave, please share with the other members that there are a couple of
rugby programs scheduled on Fox Sports World in the next couple of
weeks.

On 1/8/05 is the program "How the NRL Was Won". The NRL is the
National Regby League (Australia). It airs at 2:00pm.

On 1/12/05 is a program called "Dubai Sevens". I'm not exactly sure
what that is, but I think it's a regional rugby tournement. It airs
at 1:00am, but is repeated at 2:00am, Noon, 1:00pm, and at the same
times on 1/13/05 and 1/14/05.

See you on the 15th.

This meeting will be our first formal chance to get together &
discuss what it is we are looking to achieve over the next year with
the club.

I'll be explaining in greater detail what is expected of us for
acceptance into Both IGRAB (International Gay Rugby Association &
Board) As well as acceptance into the Midwest Rugby Union (a
prerequisite for IGRAB membership).

We will have one or two practice/training sessions scheduled to
happen before the end of January.

These meetings are specifically geared towards those who've joined
this group for the purposes of playing rugby on this team. If you
have signed up to be a supporter but are not looking to play, you
will not need to attend.

NOTICE TO THOSE INTERESTED IN PLAYING:

You have hopefully looked over the Rookie Primer & Kit Guides in the
Files section of this group already:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/TCGAYRUGBY/files/

If not please do so when you get a chance. One thing you will also
need to have is some sort of health insurance. While a well
conditioned team is far less likely to have any serious injuries.
They are still a likely factor in any contact sport. All those who do
wish to play on the team will need to have a current policy. For
those whose employers do not offer them such as mine, check out E-
Health Insurance. They seem to have incredible rates. If there is
anyone on this board who has better options for health cover, please
let us know.
http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ehi/index.html

Start Training on your own.
One of the key items Adam Josephs (President of Gotham RFC) made a
big issue of was conditioning. He couldn't stress enough how much it
would help us to A: Prevent injury, B: Increase endurance. And even
if we aren't whoring onto other teams this spring and are just going
for regular team play in the fall. We can't start this soon enough.
So get your asses into the gym.

BACKS: (Typically the leaner of the players) lots of short distance
power running is key. Spinning classes are great for this.

FORWARDS: (Bigger players) more focus on strength training, but you
will still need to develop the ability to sprint without giving up
all your energy for the next 15 minutes.

I ended up going to World Rugby Shop.com and buying that Video Guide
to Rugby. It's awesome. Everyone should pick it up. And with it on
clearance for $10.99 you can't go wrong.

I picked up a good practice ball while I was on the site as well. You
might want to do this at the same time.

Heya folks,

Sorry I've been so long in communicating. Just as I was getting settled from my trip to Chicago I got hit with the flu that's been buzzing around my universe. High fever, lots of miscellaneous flegm, A real party! But it's now finally passing.

And low & behold there are 100+ Unread e-mails in the Rugby box! Damn!

So here's some stuff I've been meaning to go over in the last couple weeks but haven't had the focus or energy.

PUB CRAWL:

This is still planned for the 8th of January. Per member suggestion we are going to start out in St. Paul at Trikkx on this one. Also per feedback we will have a definitive schedule for this run so people can meet up with us at later times. I suggest that you start at the beginning as that's the best chance you'll have to meet everyone on the team. It's hoped that when we do this in Feb/March I'll be able to secure a bus & driver for us. One meeting & drop off location! Makes life much easier and means less parking money crap for all.

10PM: Trikkx in St. Paul (Address & Directions) http://www.trikkx.com/serv04.htm

11PM: BOOM in Minneapolis (401 E. Hennepin Minneapolis, Minnesota) We had great success here last time thought it was worth another hit.

12AM: Minneapolis Eagle/Bolt (515 Washington Ave S, Minneapolis, Minnesota). As always we can cap off the night at our sponsored pub the Minneapolis Eagle/Bolt. If you are planning to show up, and want to get in without paying cover, you will need to find me @ Boom to get your "Rugby Club don't pay no stinking cover" pass from me.

I'll be showing up @ Trikkx around 9:15-9:30 to meet folks & answer questions many of you have.

MATERIALS:

SHIRTS

I contacted Zazzle today and they claim that if you order your t-shirt by Saturday Jan 1st you will get it by next Saturday no worries. Here once again is the link for that. It's also in our Links section:

http://www.zazzle.com/products/product/product.asp?product%5Fid=235542589588444328

I've attached Jpegs of the T-shirt images so you new members can see them.

FLIERS/TRICK CARDS

I will be making a bunch of Fliers & Trick Cards but the more you all can make as well. The less I dip into my shallow pockets. Both the Trick Card and 4-up Smaller Fliers are in the Files section of this group.

Look forward to hangin’ with you all again.

-Dave

Dave, I'm not going to be able to make the Pub Crawl on the 8th (have
to be in Wisconsin cheering my Packers on to victory in the
playoffs). I did see in one of the messages that there may be an
organizational meeting on the 15th. Please let me know when and
where, and I will certainly be there.

Thanks for the informational emails when I joined.

Good luck on the crawl, and see you on the 15th.

Happy New Year!

I was searching through the list of rugby groups on Yahoo and came across yours.  I am always happy to hear of new rugby teams forming.  I hope your recruiting is going well.  Has your team been approved by your Union and plan to participate in pool play this spring?

Last week was a scorcher. Busy as hell. I'm just in from Chicago a
few minutes ago and out the door again for the rest of the day. I'll
post in more depth tomorrow evening for sure.

Was lucky enough to have Adam Josephs (President of NYC's Gotham
Night's RFC) take time out while here in Minneapolis & bend his ear
about the club. I got a ton of good advice from him.

Got to hang with the Chicago Dragon's at a Christmas party held at
one of their members homes last night. What a cool group of guys they
are as well!

Cheers,

Dave

WOW! Wait let me breath a second & say it again! WOW!

I was so impressed with the folks who showed up & helped out this
saturday for our first of many pub-crawls. What a cool group of folks
we've managed to sucker (I mean recruit) into this group!

Thanks so much you guys! And thanks to those who took the time to
listen to what our members had to say about the club in spite of the
very distracting masturbating shower bloke at the Saloon! (FYI He
says he's gonna join the club as well) We definately made an
impression at Boom & Saloon on Saturday. Good on ya all!

Plans for the future are this:

Pub-Crawl II on the 8th of January. We'll hit Trikks, Brass & Gay
90's, again I'll arrange for no-cover at Eagle-Bolt after so we can
all just hang & get pissed!

Those who ordered T-shirts & didn't get them in time. Sorry about
that, they took longer at Zazzle then I expected too! Order now for
the next pub-crawl if you want, they are good for just wearing when
you go out to the bars on your own as well.

http://www.zazzle.com/products/product/product.asp?product%
5Fid=235542589588444328

This will be followed by our first formal meeting on the 15th. Time
to be determined. But we will probably end up doing it at the Bolt
before the officially open or at Grumpy's Bar on Washington ave. More
details will follow of course.

New members, you'd do yourselves a favor by checking the previous
posts to answer many of your questions. I'll be meeting with NYC's
Gotham Nights president on Wednesday, after which I'm hoping to have
a better idea of where we are in the grand scheme of things and where
we are heading as a club.

Gay Men's Chorus:

One of our members who couldn't make it cause he was singing his ass off on
Satuday night was Eric. He's the Vice President & a songster in the Twin Cities
Gay Men's Chorus. They have one more performance of their Snow Show this coming
Friday the 17th. If you want to go follow this link:
http://www.tcgmc.org/concert_2004_12_snow.htm

Had lots of folks in the Eagle/Bolt this weekend raving about the show.

Once again thanks to those who made it out. What a fucking cool
group! I'm more psyched than ever for where we are going.

Cheers Queers, (and queer friendly str8 lads)

-Dave

Dear Dave,

I missed the crawl by about ten minutes. Look's like
you didn't stick around long. Anyway, I'm still game
for the game. I went to the bolt for awhile and made
contact with four guys. One, six feet two...athletic
build...great shape...tiny back problem...Super!

Best regards,
Sam Kapelac

Keep in touch. Any flyers, fold outs, calling cards?

Hi folks,
Saw that "gayrugby.org" was up for grabs. Thought it would be an easier
domain name to type in and remember than "http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/
group/TCGAYRUGBY/" so I went ahead and registered it.

I have it so that it will redirect the viewer to this site.

However, since it is newly registered the site may not be up for 24 to 72 hours
(site was registered December 11 at 6:00pm).

Dear IGRAB members,

My partner and I just opened a Rugby Supply Store in San Diego, CA.
Some of you have either received emails, phone calls from me or seen
us at past tournaments representing Ball's Out! Rugby.  We now are a
completely seperate company and are Gay owned and operated.

We carry a much wider array of products and because we are on the West
Coast those teams on the East Coast who want to utilize us have longer
hours to make contact :-).

We have partnered with Canterbury, Barbarian, Gilbert, Rugby Tech,
Shock Doctor, Shock Top, Mueller, Holloway, Twin Cities, Summit,
Springbok, Dynamic, Reebok, Nike, Mizuno, Addidas, Kooga, Mikasa, and
many more.

You will find our prices to be competitive yet affordable with some
advantages to "Family" or Team Discounts.

Regardless if you are a Beginner player or a veteran team we, would be
more than happy to help you out.  If your team is looking for Warm
Ups, Kit Bags, Jerseys, Team Kits, Shorts, Socks, Head Gear, Vests
(Shoulder Pads), Mouth Guards, First Aid Kits, Kilts, Boots, etc.
Give us a call we'd be more than happy to discuss your options.

Our website is currently being developed but does have some
information accessible on how to reach us.  If your team is hosting a
tournament and would like us to Vend we are very generous to the Host
Team.

Look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at local events.

Yours in Rugby,

Hi guys,

Derrick Mickle here with the Seattle Quake (and formerly with San
Francisco Fog).  Just got word that World Rugby Shop
(worldrugbyshop.com) is having a sale on an *OUTSTANDING* video,
Sofa Sport's Guide to Rugby.  This is simply the best introduction
to rugby out there, and very entertaining.  For those of you looking
for a brief but precise intro to the game, this is what you've been
looking for.  The video is normally on sale for $24.99, but World
Rugby shop is clearing thier lot out for $10.99--56% off!!  My fear
is that it hasn't been selling as well as they though, so they are
getting rid of their supply and won't be ordering more.

This is also a good one for teams to stock up their video library
with.  Hand this to a new guy, along with a video of a match, and
he'll quickly be up the learning curve.  This would also be a good
component for a new player orientation.  Get five copies for about
$60 and circulate them around the club.

Here's the link to the site

Thanks Pete!

In a recent post I did cite Muddy York as a team I'd aspire for us to
be as succesful as in such a short time. They are awesome. The link
for them as well as most of the other US teams are in the links
section.

Check out these new calendars for 2005! And the other cool merch sold by other IGRAB Clubs. Gear up & get the word out!

Caledonian Thebans Rugby Calendar:
Have you seen the Caledonian Thebans Rugby Calendar. The Scottish boys show themselves 'uncovered' in the 2005 calendar.

Log onto http://www.thebans-rfc.co.uk for info on how to order and also with details on paying by cheque.

Washington Quake RFC Calendar:

Our mates out West in the Seattle Quake RFC have a calendar for sale too. I've ordered 3! One for the Eagle, one for the house & one for my overly friendly uncle! (OK it's for my mom).

http://www.quakerugby.org/shop.htm

The Fog, Gotham Knights, Gryphons, Atlanta Bucks & many of the other teams also have gear shops, some with really unique cool stuff. Check out their sites & see what you can spend money on.
