Let's get this shit rolling:
This is going to be a big posting with lots of information and it
will probably answer most of your questions. Sorry about being MIA
for the last few weeks, as we go through the formation process,
there's lots of learning for me to do. Which means taking time to
talk to team presidents & captains, and being able to communicate
during human hours. With my previously mentioned family drama's
and
insane work schedules both at the bar & the gym I had
to let this sit for a bit.
Worry not though, I'm setting things up to be delegated more &
more
of having elections for a six month board on the 5th March.
Had a wicked meeting tonight with Jason Walker our coach & god.
He's psyched to get us rolling. And all you potential players
have a role in this as well.
**********DATABASE************
When you are logged into the Yahoo group @
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/TCGAYRUGBY/ there is a section
to the left called Database. Please log in & put as much of your info
as you are comfortable with. I've put a space in there for you to
list which Gym you belong to. It's my hope that y'all will be
able to connect with others who go to the same gym to keep each other
sweating a few times a week outside of practice. Please be sure to
list your e-mails in this database, and folks try to keep postings to
each other going through e-mail, and not just on this board otherwise
everyone will get bombarded with e-mails saying "hey bob, wanna
do a spin class tonight?" etc…
**********PRACTICE & PRACTICE SPACE***********
I don't care if we end up running laps around my neighbors house
(I can't stand my neighbor, he mows his lawn every 3 days and
it's weird! Anyway) We are going to start weekly practices come
hell or high water on Wednesday March 2nd (Time TBD). Here's my
mission for you folks. We discussed in the last meeting the need for
an inexpensive indoor option for training. Coach would like to get us
into the pool for Water polo, it's good for conditioning the legs
and stamina. We also need outdoor field space for spring. We
can't be picky. Here's everyone's mission….
Check around your area and see what facilities are available. Are
there any indoor fields? Is there a high-school pool with open swim
time? Is there an indoor our outdoor place with lots of stairs wide
enough for a group of 15-30 to run up & down? If you know of such
places please contact them and find out Hours, costs, limitations
etc… Then e-mail the info to me @

By the time we have our next meeting on the 26th we need to have a
place to tell folks we'll be practicing at.
**********CLUB BOARD & ELECTIONS********
Rather than have elections for a full year I think a six month term
makes the most sense for this first election. These are the positions
we need to fill:
President
Treasurer
Secretary
Fundraising/Sponsorship
Marketing
Membership
Social
At the Feb 26th meeting we will have a chance to nominate/volunteer
for these positions. Following our first practice on the 2nd we will
have another meeting on the 5th where the board will be elected. With
so much help & guidance available to us from the other clubs please
don't feel you will get elected & then left to fend for yourself.
I will see to it that you are put in contact with someone who's
held your elected position from another team to help answer any
questions you may have. We're all learning together folks.
**********TEAM NAME**************
One of the most frequent questions asked of me since starting this
thing has been what I am going to name the team. I specificly
haven't cause I wanted everyone else who's been involved in
the gestation of this club to have a say in the matter. But we are
approaching a time where fundraising beer-busts and other recruitment
drives will be happening. Thus a name is needed.
Here's how I'd like to go about this. All of us at the drop
of a hat can probably come up with 8 names we kinda dig. To keep
things a bit easier I'd like everyone who has any ideas for names
to come up with their top three. Then post them to the board before
the 24th of February. We will then vote on a club name at the meeting
on the 26th.
I suggest you take some time checking out the other teams, not just
in the IGRAB league but in other leagues all over the world. Most of
them tell about their names & the history behind them. Kinda cool. We
have never decided weather or not we wanted to be "Minneapolis
…." Or "Twin Cities …."
I'm not fussed, either way. People all over the US know what the
Twin Cities are, I think anyway, so to better represent the fact that
we got folks from both sides `o the river in the club that might
be
the best way to go.
When posting team name ideas to the board be sure to put NAME in the
subject line.
