Wanted to pass this on to everyone concerning age group rankings. If you
race in a "special" category (i.e., elite, clysdale, athena, etc) this will
affect you.

>AGE GROUP NATIONAL RANKINGS –
>ELITE AND OTHER SPECIAL CATEGORIES REVIEW
>
>The USA Triathlon Board of Directors reaffirmed at the November 2002 board
>meeting that in order to be included in the Age Group National Rankings,
>all athletes competing in USAT sanctioned events must compete in their
>respective age group to receive credit for that race for their ranking.
>The USAT rule that applies is 3.2a, which says, “all age group athletes
>must participate and compete in the age group division corresponding to the
>athlete’s actual age on the date of the event.”
>
>If an athlete chooses to compete at a sanctioned event in any special
>race-specific category grouping which offers a start group or other course
>modification other than those designated by USAT as Age Groups, then that
>athlete forfeits the opportunity to have that race count towards their age
>group ranking. These groups typically have been “Open”, “Elite”,
>“Clydesdale/Athena” among the more common. The intent of this rule is to
>make race-day competition a level playing field for all participants
>receiving credit for that race in the year-end USAT Age Group National
>Rankings.
>
>A brief summary statement is that only athletes at any USAT sanctioned
>event who physically compete in their appropriate age group category
>without any preferential or exceptional conditions may have their race
>performance time submitted for Age Group National Ranking for that event.
>
>
>Two suggestions for Race Directors:
>Notify all athletes when they register for an elite/open/Clydesdale/Athena,
>etc wave or other special course opportunity at your event that they will
>not be included in the USAT Age Group National Rankings for that event .
>
>Communicate to all registration/event timing providers to be sure elite
>athletes and athletes in a weight or other special category are identified
>clearly in the results submitted to the USAT National Office either by
>excluding them entirely from the results files, or by including a data
>field indicating the special consideration category.
>
>If you have any questions regarding this decision, please contact the USAT
>Deputy Director, Tim Yount at tim@...
>
>Sincerely,
