Mel's wonderful! An incredibly talented triathlete with a vast knowledge of how are bodies work and what we put our bodies through is always an excellent source for massage therapy work.

Hi, thanks for the race list.
Anyone knows a sports massage expert, somewhere close to 34th and 3rd?
Please see the message below from Tony Claudino, the dates the cabin is reserved for will most likely change to Sat. and Sunday nights, we'll be returning on Monday. There are several spots still available, please contact Tony if your interested at tclaudino@...
Hello all:
I just spoke to Keith Jordan, race director for Mooseman, and Greg at Camp Wicosuta. Basically, I have made reservations for an entire BUNK CABIN for the club at Moose Village. I have reserved a cabin for 10 people for Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4th. The cost is $35/ per night. Please note we also have the option of 13 or 15 cabin option.
I need to know who is in for housing. We have the cabin reserved until Monday.
Camp Wicosuta/MooseVILLAGE Bunk Lodging $ 35.00 per night/per person (Single bed with cubby in a large bunk room with bathroom and private stall showers)
A couple of points:
-- A bus will be leaving race morning to the site.
-- Keith mentioned that there is a bond fire "party" saturday night and pancake breakfast on Sunday morning starting at 5am.
Thanks
Tony Claudino

Staten Island Flat as a Pancake was a very well organized race. And exactly like they say, everything is flat. The run is on the boardwalk which is also very pretty. Highly recommend.
Central Park is great if you hate the mass starts into lakes and/or oceans. The pool is a nice alternative to the other swims. The run and bike are, of course, challenging because they're in Central Park, but a very well run race and would also recommend.
As for Harriman, I am signed up for my first 1/2 Ironman there in May, never done their sprint, however, having biked there before all I can tell you is VERY HILLY!! I don't know about the run, but the bike seems like it is going to be extremely challenging. I'm heading up there today again to get a couple of loops under my belt.
Staten Island....flat it is, but fairly congested on the ride as it is loops and you keep catching the slower people every time on the ride...but good fun. West Point good race good competition easy ride also i think two hills maybe and a great windy run...very fast!!
One of my favorite sprint races races, easy swim great ride a few hills and good speed easy run for the last mile.

Staten Island Flat as a Pancake is a very nice race. I did it the first year it was held. Very easy course. I'd recommend it, especially for first timers.
West Point Triathlon is also a good race, although not USAT sanctioned.
Harriman is very hilly. Distances on the run course are somewhat suspect. Overall though a good race. Also not USAT certified.
Switching health plans necessitates switching Drs, so I figure now
would be a good time to get a general practioner who is an endurance
athlete or has experience working with them. My calorie intake is off
the charts to the north and my crit levels (and other associated
levels) are off the charts to the south, which usually gets stares
from Drs and suggestions that don't really fit with an active
lifestyle. I'm tired of dealing with that, so can anyone recommend a
good gp in the city?
Oyster bay was my first sprint last year...great race. very supportive, great course, lots of fun and very well organized. Open water in the bay is warm and like glass though most wore wet suits. highly recommended event!

On Saturday a group of us will be doing a hill workout on River Road, just across the GW bridge. We will be meeting at 10 am at 72nd and Riverside, will do a leisurely ride over to the hill on Henry Hudson Dr. (the road between 9W and the river) that leads up to the courthouse, and do 6 or so hill repeats. All levels are welcome to join. We should be back by 1 pm.
On Sunday we will be doing a long ride. We will keep the pace slow, and the main group will be aiming to go to Bear Mountain (total distance ~100 miles), but people are free to bail at Piermont, Nyack, etc. All levels are welcome, but we will probably be riding a little too slow (15-17 mph) for people looking to zoom out to Nyack and back. Bring plenty of pocket food as we will make two quick powerbar stops (1st around state line, 2nd at Bear Mountain) and one stop for lunch at about the 60 mile mark. We will be leaving at 9 am from 72nd and Riverside. The ride should finish by 5 pm.
If you have any questions you can email me at jonchussey@... or call me at 212-967-4149. No need to RSVP, although if we don't know you're coming we won't wait if you are late.

I personally recommend the Tri-All-3 case because it allows for minimal disassembly and extra room for wetsuit, shoes, helmet, etc. However, it is much larger than some of the other cases and may cause increased fees in cabs, planes, etc.

I am going to buy a bike case. Any opinions out there on what is a good one?

I did the race last year - it's a beautiful swim and a well run race. There was only one issue -the swim start was on land and the watertwas too shallow. We walked the first 400 meters or so. They promised to fix it this year.
Also, you can stay on the Hobart campus for only $25 a night....Geneva is about 5 hours from here without traffic.

Some of you were asking for ideas for sprint distance tris in the area. Here's one. See the attached PDF. It's put on by Doug Stern who is a swim coach in the city and the town of Highland NY. It's 100 miles from NYC.
