I'm signed up for IM Arizona, heard it was a good race, doing IM Lake
Placid in July, hilly terrain compared to Arizona.
Anyone doing Lake Placid?

Thanks!

Hi - This will be my first triathlon - there's a whole group from NYC with Team
in Training
going down for the Florida event so keep an eye out for the purple shirts!

Yesssirrreee! I am racing this weekend. My first 1/2 Ironman ever :-) It seems like it's going to be a really tough course, so wish me luck! I know the bike will be hilly, but I just got an email about the run, which is part off-road, and they said there's one section that is so rocky going down that we'll HAVE to stop and walk down! So I guess shooting for a good time is out of the question :-)

Finally, we should make arrangement to try to find eachother down their.
I checked the list and there like 120 NYC people going down to do the race.
Jose:-)
We have a new open water swim race to look forward to this year. The
Grimaldo's Coney Island Mile. It should be a nice addition to the
various other openwater swim races around NYC.
You can register for it at
http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1229532
More information about the race can be found at www.cibbows.org.
> I did Ironman Florida Last year. I am not so sure about that " FLAT " part.
>>>From the IMF web site:
The bike portion of the event is extremely flat and fast, although wind can
play a factor in
the race.
>>>I guess flat is a rather relative term, so you may be right. I just know that
some
people like to exclude IMF out of the personal record list, because finish times
are usually
way faster than other IMNA races. I heard the topo chart is something like this:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Don't take the last two comments too seriously).
One other point that may be way more important. Find training partners that have
the
same goal. It's always hard to train when everybodys elses moves into off season
mode.
IMF is in early November? Lonely Saturday morning bike rides to Bear Mountain
are not so
much fun.

I did Ironman Florida Last year. I am not so sure about that " FLAT " part. I have to admit i saw a lot of ups and downs. Eagleman is way flatter. I found a lot of wind the whole ride in Florida which never helps. I am a strong cycleist and it took me over 6 hours to finish. So be careful with the " FLAT " word!
John,
I've never done IMF, but my experience is that you shouldn't underestimate a
"flat" race.
Although faster, it doesn't become neccessarily easier because of this.
Eagleman is another good example for this. I usually spend literally +/- 99% of
my race in
the aero position, and get out of it only on very steep hills or in order to
relax my muscles.
Without hills, strong head winds etc. you may end up aero for the complete bike
leg,
cranking the very same cadence for 6hrs.
The best way to train for this (although quite boring) are long 3 hrs+ rides on
the trainer
to strengthen your muscles and your mind.
At the end, I still like it flat and fast. You will be flying in the sun shine.
And what's nicer
than this? Congratulations on your sign up. Keep us posted.
Stefan
Inspired by my trip to Wildflower I signed up for the
flattest IM that I could find. I took a Community Fund
spot at IM Florida on the basis that the profile is
very un-Wildflowerish....
Any advice from past participants on anything (course,
transport, training, accommodation) would be great.
This will be my 1st IM.
Is anyone else doing IM Florida this year? 12 spots
remain if anyone would like to join me.

Looking for ride to/from Eagleman:
Anyone leaving Friday night?
In exchange for my company and $ for gas, my homestay has agreed to let you
stay there as well.
Only 1 thing: Natasha Badmann will be there as well. Natasha stayed there
last year and is staying there this year, too.
Save $ on a hotel, and the hosts are awesome! I've been going there since
2000.
I'll have my bike and a small duffel bag (I'm not racing).
No joke! E-mail me at jasontrabinowitz@...
I'm sure many of you already read this article in the Science Times
(Tuesday). I personally thought it was interesting since it teased out
the science and logic of the blood doping test administered to Tyler,
it's ramifications, accuracy and potential flaws, and (im)probability
of errors in a nice package. It still leaves things in the air and is
relatively inconclusive, but still a good read for everyone--both
supporters and detractors of Tyler and will give new room for pause.

We just received notice from one of our major component distributors
that Dimension is recalling all of their 130 degree rise stems. Over
18,000 units have been sold since January 2003. The stems may crack or
break during use, which could lead to serious injury.
If your stem says "Dimension" on the side, and you're not sure if it's
a 130 degree rise or not, go into any bike shop and ask them to check
it out.

I'm looking for a good road (not tri) bike with a top tube true
horizontal around 53cm (center to center works too if top tube is
angled at zero). Contact me offline if you're selling!

I totally agree with the procedure and think it's for a great cause. So far as I

money goes towards the local YMCA.
I was just wondering what it meant if qualified athletes actually could sell

Stefan
Having had a conversation with the President of IMNA at last year's nyc marathon expo, I found out that these are official slots sold by IMNA, not the athletes. I think he said they sell 10 each year. All of the proceeds go toward the community and/or charity in Kona, hawaii. for example, recently they built a state of the art pool and fitness center for the public there...IMNA feels it's the least they can do for taking over the island during those few weeks in Oct.

Winning bid:
US $33,400.00
Amazes me!
On the other hand, if you don't have to train your butt of for a whole year (or more than
that!), and use all these training hours spent working, the price may actually be a pretty
good deal. Considering 1000 annual training hours x (put your rate here)...
Altough, I guess one still have to give proof to be able to handle the distance. I think the
folks at IMNA require the completion of a half -IM in a certain time limit.
I wonder what would happen if people could officially sell their entrys. What's the limit to
get weak? Don't ask me :o)

...but, with a good accountant, I'm pretty sure the $33,400 are somewhat tax
deductable
as well (community work etc). So at the end of the line...
Stefan
Stefan,
Does this mean that you have to claim winnings equal
to $33,400.00 on your income tax return? Don't
worry--I think the tax only works out to half of that.

I think the nice part about the nyc-tri club races is that you will find people
of ALL abilities
there. A lot will do their first race (I did) and a hand full of very fast
racers will show up as
well.
So it's a good place to begin and compare yourself.
You should do it.
Stefan
So is this course just a 3 mile run, then a 20 mile bike?
I'm thinking about signing up...will it be all hard core bikers or ok for a novice?

It is beautiful, smooth & fast. Pump up your tires to the max. If any of you are considering doing a biathlon (duathlon to the rest of the multi-sport world) then I would recommend this race.
