2008 plans for Seminary and Gym construction work

Friends of Saint Edward State Park meeting, Feb 13, 2008
8 attended, Ranger Mohammad unable to attend.
First there was discussion about the Earth Day Celebration, which will
be Saturday April 26th.
The Grand Dining Hall has been reserved. In the early morning there will
be a community service project. This will be invasive weed removal, pulling ivy, and planting red western tree seedlings.
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be the demonstrations and activities both in the
Dining Hall and outside.
Christina, of NW Center, will be doing April Pool's Day at the Carole
Ann Wade Pool again this year.
Ranger Mohammad is arranging the slide show of Saint Edward Seminary and State Park's history and there will be guided tours of the Seminary building.
Still in the planning stages: a early AM birdwalk by the Audubon Society, Seattle Tilth demonstration of worm bins, demonstration of recycling by by Allied Waste and PSE, demonstrations by a Master Gardner and the Native Plant society. Many groups who participated last year will be invited to participate again.
A large sign will be made to advertise the event and notices put in
local news papers under 'current events'.
There was several reports on activity about the State Park.
First, was a report of surveying done around the Seminary building for
phase one of water abatement in the basement. Work on French drains and drainage pipes done spring and summer may interfere with some summer
activities planned on the park grounds.
There was a report from Christian, NW Center, about spring & summer
repairs to the Gymnasium.
With Ranger Mohammad absent, Karl talked about the reservations at the park maxing early again this year.
The park is booked for Weddings out to August. There are picnics areas
still available.
Nonnative trees and brush are being removed in the Grotto area.
Also the Orchard is being cleared of overgrowth to bring light to the
apple trees and bring them back to health.
The next meeting will be Wed. March 12 at 7 p.m. in the room called
Aaron's Place in the gym.
