2008 Washington Games - Powered By You

Seattle Post Intelligencer Sports Star of the Year Award

Letter from the Executive Director

March 27-29, 2008 the Seattle Sports Commission, the University of Washington, and the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA are teaming up to host the 2008 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. This event will provide a sneak peek for the Pacific Northwest into the future of USA Swimming, as many of these elite intercollegiate swimmers will continue on to the Olympics. The event will generate a significant boost to the tourism and hospitability industry in the South Puget Sound Region. Local support of this championship event is crucial and will help to ensure its return for years to come.

The Seattle Sports Commission and Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau invite you to enjoy this exciting three-day competition with our special pre-sale offer. As a valued member we want to give you the first opportunity to purchase the best available seats before the general public. The pre-sale begins January 15 at 12:00 p.m. You will have the first opportunity to reserve the best available seats in the building before the general public on February 1. Seating is limited and availability is on a first come, first serve basis.

To purchase tickets click on the link www.ticketmaster.com/ncaaswimanddive08 and type in your password: SSCPRE. For additional questions on the event, please call the Seattle Sports Commission at 206-461-5845.

SEATTLE POST INTELLIGENCER SPORTS STAR OF THE YEAR AWARD

One of the nation's longest-running sports banquets returns Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. when the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Sports Star of the Year awards program fills the Grand Ballroom at The Westin Seattle.

This will be the 73rd annual version of an event launched by legendary P-I sports editor Royal Brougham, who would hardly recognize the fast-paced, entertaining celebration it has become. The Sports Star of the Year program honors excellence in a wide array of professional and college sports. It also includes past winners. The result is a head table packed with many of the biggest names in Seattle sports – champs from as far back as the 1940s and '50s sitting alongside current Olympians, All-Americans and pro all-stars.
KIRO 7 news anchor and Seahawks play-by-play announcer Steve Raible is master of ceremonies. Award winners include Mariners All-Star pitcher J.J. Putz, University of Washington all-conference basketball player Jon Brockman, UW all-conference football player Louis Rankin, UW all-conference softball pitcher Danielle Lawrie, Emerald Downs record-setting jockey Ricky Frazier, Seattle Pacific University national championship runner Jessica Pixler and SPU first-team All-America soccer player Sarah Martinez. Three are yet to be announced.
The award winners are introduced with video highlights. The audience plays a role by picking one male and one female Sports Star of the Year. Voting happens during the meal and results are announced at the end of the program.
Tickets cost $75 and may be ordered by calling Katherine White at 206-448-8066.
