Dear Derby Friends and Family,
Your Ithaca SufferJets are preparing to stamp the passports of Ottawa's Capital
Carnage good and hard this Saturday as we host our North American neighbors in
our first-ever international roller derby bout!
We enjoyed a huge Ithaca welcome back to Cass Park last month during our home
season opener. As we rolled to victory, you guys rocked the house! We hope to
see you (and hear you!) back on the sidelines Saturday.
Cass Park Rink
Doors open at 7:00 pm, bout begins at 7:30
DJs Bob and Luke will keep the tunes spinning.
A portion of the proceeds of this bout will benefit RIBs (Recycle Ithaca's
Bicycles)
Come on down and watch us roll around!
You rock. we roll,
Sarabellum
We're now opening up our Wednesday practice to interested
skaters for a roller derby style workout!
When? 7-9pm on Wednesdays
Where? Cass Park Rink
Who? Anyone! Men and Women welcome
How much? $5/session
What do I need to skate?
All you really need are skates, helmet, pads and mouthguard. If you're doing this for the fun of it and for great exercise - then lower price items work just fine.
Is there hitting involved? No. We'll focus on non-hitting drills, endurance, & skating skills.
We do have some spare gear (helmets, pads, skates) however our new recruits in training for the team have first dibs! We'd just have to sort out who needs what at the beginning of practice.... We are also looking into
purchasing some more skates for people to borrow. If you have any skates you'd like to donate to the league we'd sure appreciate it!
Your fellow SJs are in desperate need of more troops!
Head on over to:
The secret bat cave is right next to Pyramid Sound @ 105 E. Clinton St
(near corner with S. Cayuga) . People should park around the corner
on Cayuga Street or in the big-ass parking garage. There is NO
PARKING in front of the garage/studio.
If lost or having problems, please call Sue's (Cam Arrow) cell 220-6279.

Hey Fans, Friends, and Family,
Sarabellum here. And I am chomping at the bit in anticipation of our
home season opener on May 30th (the Saturday of Ithaca Festival) when
we take on Rochester's Roc City Rollers at our own Cass Park Rink.
As many of you know, it takes a village to raise a roller derby bout.
Besides the referees and skaters we always need volunteers to track
penalties, work the door, help with crowd control, run the penalty
boxes, sell our fantastic merch, and the very important role of
running the scoreboard! (wink wink!) Here's a call-out to you,
people of the village:
If any of you out there would like to help make our 2009 home season
opener a success by filling a supporting "roll" please let us know!
The doors open at 7 pm, and the first whistle blows at 7:30.
You rock, we roll.
yours,
Sarabellum
Who can attend: All current skaters, new recruits, freshmeat, refs, interested refs, NSOs, are invited. However to participate in scrimmage & other advanced elements skaters must have met the minimum skills requirements. Regardless, there is something for everyone to learn!
Cost: Free! But if you have any special Thank Yous for Will & Bitches...please do.
Instructors: Will Jettison and Bitches Bruze of Pioneer Valley Roller Derby
Note:
Skaters, refs should arrive a little early to get skates and kneepads on, other gear
can be added later...Bitches sez "the more time you are in your skates the better"...and there
isn't time later to gear up... Bring water, snacks, and chair or cushion to sit on...
2pm Visual Rules - Will and Bitches and PowerPoint on projector - Referees, NSO, skaters, coaches together
- 4.0 rules plus change ups between 3.1 and 4.0 - Attendees should have reviewed the current WFTDA 4.0 ruleset (INCLUDING appendices: skills, track, hand signals) in advance. We will provide copies of ruleset for everyone at the workshop. You can view the official ruleset online: www.wftda.com.
You'll find a nice writeup on the change from 3.1 to 4.0 here:
3:15pm "Focus" Groups - what those rules mean Bitches - (skaters and coaches) strategery and using rules in pack situations
Will - (referees and NSOs) "what to look for"
3:45pm All skaters (stripes and roster) Skating drill time - endurance, skating in proximity, general skills - referees and skaters
Maybe NSOs could have a class on stats?
4:30pm Bitches - (roster) pack speed concepts and drills Will - (referees and NSOs) referee positions, calls, outside pack rotations, inside pack communication/choreography
5pm Scrimmage - (referees, roster, NSOs, coaches) 3 on 2s. 3 on 3s and full 5 on 5s with referees being coached on calls and refereeing and skaters can apply speed and pack concepts

Hey fans and friends!
Just a heads up that we'll be stirring up the derby hot pot this
weekend at the Ithaca Chili Festival. If you need some chili relief,
swing by our table near Mate Factor to say hi, pick up some merch, the
2009 season schedule, to get recruited as a skater, ref or sponsor; or
to hear the details of our exciting victory last Sunday.
It's chilli out there! But things in derby land are heating up!
Cheers,
Sarabellum
Dear Fans, Friends, and Family;
After dancing the night away to the Sutras at the SufferJets Sweet and
Tart Valentine's Saturday Soiree, we rose on Sunday, hot to hit the
rink; ready to compete in our first bout of the '09 season.
Last night your Ithaca SufferJets teamed up with their Syracuse
comrades and, calling themselves "the Ice Queens," they took on the

An excellent start to the second season of Ithaca roller derby madness!

in Hackettstown, New Jersey on March 21st. Check out the website for
the complete season schedule.

Dear Fans, Family, and Friends,
Happy New Year!
The Ithaca League of Women Rollers, more commonly known by their team
name, the SufferJets, is recruiting referees for their second season of
hootin' and hollerin' sporty ROLLER DERBY fun!
* There are roles for skating refs as well as non-skating refs.
* We can teach you the rules and teach you how to skate. No experience
required.
* Referee gigs are a great way to be involved with the derby league if
you: * are not a woman (refs can be of any gender), or * don't want to
fully commit to being a team skater, or *want to be involved but fear
injury.
* Being a referee requires less commitment. We only ask that you come to
practice occasionally (though you are always welcome!) and if possible,
just before any bouts you plan to ref in.
*No monthly dues or fees.
If you are interested, please e-mail the SufferJets at
info@... with REF in the subject line. Then we'll keep
you in the referee loop! If you know others that may be interested,
please forward this e-mail to them.

Hi Girls,
I won't be at practice tonight because I've decided to wait for my new
skates which are due to arrive July 1st, just in time for Tuesday's
practice. I ordered a nice pair of Riedell R3s with jump bars-anyone
know anything about them? My new helmet and wrist guards just arrived
today.
Surprisingly, I'm not in that much pain after Tuesday's ghastly fiasco
where I was a quivering mess and falling all over. I could barely walk
when I got home and was scared I would be paralyzed by morning, but
these last 2 mornings I really haven't been that sore. It's a miracle!
Hopefully that groin muscle will build strength up with each practice
and eventually I'll be able to do those drills without using my hands.
Talk about a big, fat, juicy slice of humble pie! Ouch!
Have a great practice. See ya Tuesday! :0)

Hey, sorry that I'm not at practice tonight. I got out of work late
and forgot that there was a practice today until I looked at the
schedule (which is at my computer all the way out in caroline). I
promise I won't be lame next week and show up on Tuesday. Also, does
anyone know if we got our order from sincity skates in yet. If so, how
much do I owe for my outdoor wheels? I will see you all Tuesday!
