Sept. 4-6 Durango SKA Brewing Hat

Riverview Sports Complex, 2900 Mesa, Durango, CO
Map
You can now pre-register for the Durango Hat at www.southwestultimate.com
If you have never been to this tournament, ask somebody who has how much fun it is.
If you have been before, it will be bigger and better than ever before.

As always the party starts on Thursday with pick-up followed by $1 pint night. Friday we go mountain biking, road biking, rock climbing or tubing, followed by evening goaltimate. Then we cruise out to the campground and tap the first keg of the weekend. Saturday features a nice late start time of 10:30, although if you don't pre-register, you need to be there by 9:45. Dinner and the party is at the new SKA World Headquarters, a great new venue about 10 times as big as the old place. Great food, kickass beer, a karaoke contest, poker tournament, beer olympics, dance competition, and a few other party surprises await. The after party is at the campground, with another keg, plus wine and cocktails, a bonfire, and roasting marshmallows.  Sunday is another late start, although you will want to show up a little early for the pancake breakfast. Quarters, semis and finals, then we head to the hot springs for another party. Disc golf on Monday, or whatever your other favorite outdoor activity might happen to be. If enough people request it, babysitting at the fields will be available and we will have massage therapists on site. At this point, the tournament fee is $35 this year, which includes camping, everything listed above, plus field food, a disc and the official t-shirt of whichever team you end up on, to wear for the tournament and keep afterwards.  For the first 75 people, early registration is only $30 (we expect about 150 people this year).  www.southwestultimate.com

Another promo will go out about a week before the tournament with directions to the campground and party.

Also, for everybody within driving distance of Denver, I will also be running a one day hat tournament in Evergreen, CO on August 23.  Details on the website.

We’re still out at Mountain Shadows Park by Chipeta Elementary School every Monday and Thursday at noon, but the numbers have been low for a summer.  The economy might stink, but pickup ultimate is free!  Hopefully we’ll get at least 4 on 4 for Thursday, come out if you can!

The tournament will be a Sunday only hat tournament at Crown Mountain Park in El Jebel.  Registration runs from 8:30 to 9:30, games will start at 10.  If you can't make it to the fields by 9:30, please send an e-mail to southwestultimate@... or a text to 970.779.8772 with the following information.

Name_______________  Male/Female
Experience Level     1-10
Competitiveness      1-5
Fitness/Athleticism  1-5

1 is low, 10 or 5 is high.  The tournament fee will be $12.

If you come in to Aspen on Friday night or Saturday, there will be a big parade at noon on Saturday, followed by a street fair, with pickup at 5:00 PM at Aspen High School(336 High School) then lots of live music downtown and of course, fireworks.  Sunday morning we will have breakfast foods at the fields.  Bring a white and dark shirt, water bottles and cleats.

So here is the format for the 4th of July.  Late start time of 2 pm, 10 savage teams, 5 rounds of pool play and the quarters on Saturday.  Food at the fields, then go into Aspen to party.  Sunday is semis and finals of the savage tournament, followed immediately by the hat tournament.  The cost for the savage tourney is $150 per team, the Hat tournament is $10 per person, if you play both, you get a $5 discount.  There will be one spot saved for a savage pick-up team, but only if enough individual women register.  Tournament format will be 5-2.

Hey everyone, I hope you have a great Memorial day weekend.  There will be no practice on Saturday, although you can still go to pick up if you are around.  We will have practice on Monday at 5pm.  We are going at 5 because I'm hoping most people have the day off and will be back if they are out of town.  I would also like to have people go to Chipotle downtown after practice for some good socializing time, if you can spare some extra time after.

Thanks,
Clint

Want to start getting back in to tournament shape and help restart a CO tournament tradition?

Bear Creek Park, 2300 Argus, Colorado Springs You will want to drive north through the park to the northernmost parking lot.

Hey everyone I just heard from Trent that he couldn't get enough teams for a full tourney so he is dropping it down to a Hat Tournament.  What this means is that everyone who shows up to play (it is only on Saturday) will write down their skill level and put their name into a hat.  Random teams will be drawn up with skill levels being as even as possible.  I'm not sure how much it will cost, could be between 15-25 bucks but I told Trent I'd get him a count.

I will not be at practice tonight as I'm under the weather, as opposed to above it where I can see rainbows and there is never any wind when I'm playing Ultimate... any ways.  Brad, Jimmy, and Nate will be running practice in my place.  Let them know if you are interested in playing this weekend so I can send the info onto Trent.

Thanks,
Clint

P.S. I also need you to give your shirt sizes to Brad, Nate, and Jimmy so I can have them when I go to buy the jerseys.

I'm going to submit a bid for the Spring Thaw on 16th & 17th, of this month.  We have practice on Saturday and Monday.  I need everyone to be there for both.  If you missed tonight then the goal is to bring out one new person to practice this Saturday.  Please try and do this, we need new members and more importantly female members.

Saturday I will need to know how many people want to play in the savage tournament on the 6th and 7th of JUNE.  I put May  in the email last night but it is in JUNE.

Okay so a couple of starter items.  There are emails that need to be added to this.  Chuck I'm hoping you can add these for me becasue I'm not sure if I can, and if I can, I haven't bothered to figure out how.

jillian.keahey@..., margaret.ginnott@..., hannahsohl@..., caitlin.bette-waner@..., jenaviola@...

Those are emails that Steph got from some possible female players.

Now for the most important item, a count for the tournament in the Springs on the 16th and 17th of this month.  Trent is bringing back Spring Thaw.  If we are going to send a bid for this tourney I need to know how many people can play ASAP, and when I say ASAP I mean tomorrow.  I'm going to email him and let him know that we are interested and I will let him know the final answer by tomorrow night.  The cost of the tourney will be approx $300 divided by the number of players we have.

We really need to enter this tourney just to get all the rookies used to a two day tourney.

The second tourney is Grass Roots Savage which is on the 6th and 7th of May.  I need to know by this Saturday who is interested in playing.  The teams are capped at 10 people per team.  If we have more then 10 then I will try and get 20 for two teams.

We will be going to all tourneys after Grass Roots.  Those dates which you need to do your best to be free for are...

Swollen Toe Returns in Fort Collins June 20th/21st
Grub in Boulder July 18th/19th
Lungbuster July 25th/26th
Cow patty August 29th/30th

Sectionals will be sometime in September and I will keep you informed as I get information about it.

Last thing, I promise.  Any one who wants a vote or opinion on jerseys needs to bring an idea this Saturday to practice.  Just draw the design on a sheet of paper so everyone can visualize what you are going for.  I will be meeting with a screenprinting place and we will order a light and dark of the most popular jersey design.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, everyone will be required to buy a light and dark jersey to play on the team.

Clint

P.S. Post script doesn't count as part of the message so I can put this here.  Try to recruit  guys and girls to play on this team.  We need healthy numbers to stay competitive and perform well this year. I don't care if they've never touched a disc in their life, I'll get them ready.

After several weeks of efforts, I finally secured fields in Colorado Springs for a new Spring Thaw tournament on May 16-17.  It will be a small tourney, 8-10 teams, and I already have 3-4, so if you are on a co-ed team, talk to your captain(s) and have them e-mail me right away. Full tourney details will be posted next week, expect the cost to be around $300 per team.

The 18th Annual Grass Roots Ultimate Benefit
(GRUB) tournament hosted by Grass Roots Ultimate (GRU) will take place
July 18-19, 2009 at the plush Pleasant View Soccer Complex in Boulder.

The format will be similar to last year. We can accommodate 32 co/ed teams, with 16 bids in the 'A' division and 16 bids in the 'B' division. As a benchmark, the 'A' division is for teams that could compete (at least on paper) at the UPA regional level. The tournament also provides dinner, party at the Boulder Beer Brewery, and some type of prize for the winning team.

As always money raised at GRUB is donated to charity. This year we are supporting the Carriage House Homeless Shelter.

Details: http://gru.org/ archive/grub- 2009

Cheers,
Baker

    Hi everyone!

Whether you’re new to ultimate Frisbee, consider yourself an experienced player, or land somewhere in between, you won’t want to miss out on this great opportunity to stay in shape, make some new friends and play some rocking ultimate!

This year we are going to have the usual shenanigans: 12 weeks of ultimate including an end-of-the-year tournament with party to follow. You will receive a t-shirt and a disc - all for only $60 (that’s only $5 per week).

Join us on Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. in Bear Creek Park! The league begins on May 20, with subsequent games every Wednesday night. The league will conclude on Saturday, August 1 with an all day league-wide tournament. Bear Creek Park is located at 21st and Argus Blvd, just a few minutes from Old Colorado City.

Also, we will once again be providing a $10 refund to all first-year registrants and their recruiter.

So sign up and get ready for another great summer of SpringsUltimate!

For more information about the league, and to sign up, please visit: http://springsultimate.org/league

    Thanks!
