One thing I think that we all need to pitch in on is trying to find businesses to sponser the league so that we drive down the cost. Each team could have its own sponsor, put something on thier shirts the sponsors name along with summer league, the sponsor can write it of as a tax deduction and we could advertise in thier establishments. Works our great for everyone.

I was thinking back to how we organized summer league in Richmond; so let me explain it and you all can decide if there are any good ideas to take away from it.
This will take a bit more organization but it may work. In Richmond we had two different field locations and two possible days during the week that one may play. When you signed up for league you would indicate a game day preference ...ie either Tues ... Thurs or no preference(can play any day). So based on that information teams would be picked and a schedule would be made that would simply state this team plays on this day at this location.
I understand that thier may be a concern that by some fluke and all the good player could only play on a particular day which would make teams on Day A better than Day B. But like I said this is just a desciption so that you guys can take what good points you like.

First – let me say, Thank You Matt, for stepping up and making sure we all have a local outlet for our Ultimate fetish. And thanks for being forward-thinking about how to improve numbers and turnout.
I like the concept of centralized fields. That may well be a deterrent to getting the desired numbers.
However, moving the league to weekends will probably have the opposite effect that you are trying to achieve. Denver gets numbers, because they have numbers – well over a million population to draw on. Since this is summer, you will have numerous distractions competing for league members’ time on weekends: vacations, ultimate tourneys (almost every other weekend!), hiking, backpacking, river rafting, foot races, etc etc. I very much believe this will have a negative effect.
So – if that is the case, back to “where can you get centralized fields during the week in CSprings?”
- Bear Creek – probably available on week nights, but you can only reserve 2 out of 3 fields. If we only need 2 fields (4 teams) then this will do. If we need 3 fields, then we could just try to get there early and mark out the 3rd field (available on first-come-first-
serve basis). - Others? There are several new complexes added in recent years – but I am not up on them.
Let me know how I can help.

SpringsUltimate,
As I have been getting things ready for this year's summer league, I have a bold new idea. I would hate to implement something like this without first discussing it with everybody, which is why I am here.
Over the last few years summer league has been on a weekday night at a field location which is not optimal. I think that these two, in combination with eachother, are part of the reason that the league has been beginning to suffer. I started this year by saying that I wanted to find a new set of fields in the city. The problem with this arises when you realize that almost all city fields which are large enough to house the league are used for Park and Rec activities on weekday nights. There is not an open field large enough to house the league, unless we move the league to the weekend. Which is why I would like to propose a new alternative.
Denver's CUA (formally U2) has had a very successful league for many, many years. The fields that they currently use are not perfect, a bit of slope, a bit uneven... but they are easy to get to and centralized. I believe this simple fact could be a small aspect of their success. To me, the quality of the fields does not matter. What really does matter is having people to play.
What are your thoughts on moving the league to Saturdays and moving it to an in-city field (such as Cottonwood or Bear Creek)? If this were the case, I would also propose starting up a weeknight pickup to substitute the lack of weekend pickup.
Please respond with your opinions. I don't want to make a decision like this without the support of the community.
