I want to be part of something big.
I want to give back to something worthwhile.
I want to be part of the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF).
As part of my job at Carmichael Training Systems the past year, I
had the opportunity to travel to the Moab Skinny Tire Festival in
Utah. Here I met countless individuals who had battled cancer, who had
beaten the odds, and who are now fighting for the cause in their own
special ways. I interacted with the founders of the Lance Armstrong
Foundation (sadly not Lance himself) and heard just how sincerely
committed they are to their fight. I didn't like being there solely
because of my company's sponsorship, I wanted to be there with them;
not selling coaching packages or trading business cards (nothing wrong with that, don't get me wrong), but hearing
their stories of survival and helping in their cause. So this year, I
will do just that and you can be part of it as well.
I can't tell you how much I admire Lance Armstrong. For someone
so successful and someone who has put in so much time and energy
getting to where he is, it would be easy for him to "take a break" and
enjoy his retirement from the limelight. Lance approaches this the
exact opposite way saying that the easy decision is to continue
fighting the disease that changed his life. He constantly speaks with
politicians looking for support, he constantly travels showing people
his dedication to the fight, and is one famous face who makes a
conscious decision on the products and companies he endorses.
"Moab What?" www.skinnytirefestival.com
This is a four day celebration in the red painted desert of Utah
for the Lance Armstrong Foundation in the fight against cancer.
Customarily a town for knobby-tired mountain bikers, Moab hosts this
charity festival bringing increasing crowds carrying the LAF
banner. Each day has a 40-60 mile road cycling ride scheduled along
with speakers, a silent auction and other events that help raise
awareness and funds about cancer. This is also one of the most
beautiful parts of the country that cyclists just can't resist.
"What is the LAF?" www.livestrong.com
Yellow bracelets, c'mon! The LAF is a non-profit
organization formed by Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong after
his much-publicized battle with cancer. The LAF serves their mission through education, advocacy, public health and research programs. Beyond inspiring cancer patients with his own miraculous tale,
Lance now travels the world speaking with the world's most powerful
people to make cancer research a number one priority. Their website
tells you everything you ever need to know about how they got started,
what they are doing with the money, and what is next for Lance.
"Whattya Want?"
Any donation you can make, the LAF and I appreciate. I have a
goal of $1000 and you can be part of that with whatever you'd like, no
matter how small. I am quite poor, working a low paying job (wah wah,
save it I know) and will be donating you can be sure of that, so I'm
asking you to help me be part of this awesome event as well. I'll even
send you a picture and a thank you note!
Be part of Lance's fight, you'll be glad you did.
How?
No envelopes, no checkbooks, and you don't even
have to pay postage for your donation. Just click the link below and
you can donate to my ride through a secure site that handles many
sporting event registrations and charitable donations (it's been secure
for me in the past, no worries). If you want to pay postage and all
that jazz, I will also accept a check made out to the Lance Armstrong
Foundation. My address is below.
So, give back this year and help us all be part of a noble cause
and long-running organization like the LAF.
Spread the word, forward this to your friends, sign up for Moab yourself, anything helps!
I'm a good guy, the LAF is a good foundation, and you'll feel good about yourself. It's all good!
