As the old year yields to the new, in these cold dark days of winter, we look forward to those hot days of summer - when we know we will once again hear the dulcet tones of David Duffield commentating on the great European cycle races on Eurosport in his inimitable politically-incorrect style.
As mayhem engulfs the bunch, "Duffers" will once again be regaling us with tales of the "Fat Bottomed Girls" poster being shot in a sealed stadium, with only him, the girls and the photographer.
Peter,
Thanks for the invite, but I've promised the boys a trip to town to
spend their xmas money. Also I'm hoping my ADSL hardware will arrive.
Have a good ride

Fat Fighters are welcome to join me on Tuesday for a ride in Cotswold area. I plan to park at Somerton, just west of M40, junction 10; which can be accessed easily using A43 from M1, Junction 15a. Both Junctions have service areas if required.
Let me know if interested. I could fit one other bike in my car. Time is flexible, but will include pub lunch.
Thanks for the invitation, but we have arranged to meet with Wendy and Ken, otherwise we would have welcomed it. Have a day, and best wishes to you both for the New Year. See you at Sibbertoft?

Re: Sunday's scheduled Mince Pie Run.
The weather forecast for Sunday is fairly bleak, and the Belton mince pies will almost certainly have gone long before our section arrives. Any thoughts for a suitable alternative venue for lunch Eg: Burton Overy (not checked if they are fully booked) - I could rustle up some mince pies and coffee for around 10.30am.

Arrived at Ratby too early for pubs, so followed Burrough Road, past “The Plough” (fully booked for lunches ‘til after 6pm), to join R49 Bridleway. This had been longstanding subject of dispute between landowner at Old Hays Farm and Eric Neal of our DA with County Council. Problem now resolved, and boggy surface fully surfaced with tarmac, with car park for Nature Trail. This provides over 2 miles of mainly traffic free riding between Ratby and junction east of Thornton Reservoir – quite an asset. Spotted abandoned trike by road, and shouted greeting to Dennis Heggs on other side of hedge! We rode together to hall at Groby to eat sandwiches, before visiting Earl of Stamford Arms. Much improved since my last visit several decades past. Plenty of room, even with John Moon, Andy Tokeley, and other members of the L&P section; pub would have provided a meal had I not taken the precaution of carrying my packed lunch..
Church packed to capacity, with visiting readers from Lincs., Northants., Derby, and Notts. DAs.Accordion duet added variety, as did an address by M.E.P. Mel Read who joined us for tea afterwards. David Taylor MP was then presented with his certificate for riding a loop of our DA125 event earlier this year. The ride home was assisted by the tailwind, and refreshments were taken in the company of Mr.Boswell of the N.Yorks. DA at “The Kaffir” in Whetstone, which I have noted for future reference.
----Original Message Follows---- From: "William Sichel" To: "Adrian Stott" CC: Subject: Definition of agony Date: Mon, 8 Dec 2003 21:11:29 -0000 I had a very unusual experience of prolonged agony last Sunday. After just a very few minutes of my long Sunday moring run with weight vest, a small bottle of energy gel (50% polymer) that I had been carry in the front pouch of my weight vest all leaked out and flooded my groin area and inner thighs. Being in a country location and not wanting to return home I continued with my 2hrs 40mins run. The gel quickly 'dried' on all areas forming a very effective 'glue'. My tights were glued to my thighs and my genitals glued up. Periodically I pullled my lycra tights away from my inner thighs so that I could run more freely, unfortunately this effectvely removed several layers of skin each time I did it. Thankfully strong sugar solutions dissolve in warm water and after peeling off my tights to inspect raw inner thighs I was able to free everything up with a warm but painful shower. There is probably a clever punch line to this stroy but I can't think of one! William.

As my contribution to the Section jersey design, I’ve attached some existing designs for comment.
1.Design
As I understand the requirements, we need to minimise costs by using just white plus one other colour. The “Ventoux” design keeps the white at both front and back as a conspicuity aid, the rest being blue. The use of a flared white design from waist to shoulders is a hopefully more flattering design than the horizontal band used in the DA Centenary jersey.
2.Colour
The DA colour is traditionally red & white, as in the centenary jersey. This distinguishes us from other neighbouring DAs such as Notts. who are green & white. However I see no real need to observe this custom as this is to be a section jersey, rather than a DA jersey. It was suggested that a blue colour would be preferred. The Ventoux jersey uses a light blue colour; but I think the darker blue in the Ideal Travel jersey gives more “presence”. Perhaps a royal blue would be better still?
3.Lettering
I think we must have “CTC” before the section identity. Perhaps
CTC
South
Leics.
Rather than
CTC
S.Leics.
We need to avoid reference to the DA, else we have to refer to “Leicestershire & Rutland District Association”, or “Leics. & Rutland DA” at best.
4.Logo
If required, we could borrow our centenary logo, of a fox and two wheels. In our case we would use both wheels with the CTC wings, in place of the centenary wheel.
Thanks to Dave Billo for the photos - he asked for a curvy model, but didn't specify where the curves should be.
The Official PBP results have now been published on the ACP web site
http://www.audax-club-parisien.com/
I've also uploaded a copy of the non-french results to the Files
section of the group pages. I'm sure someone out there is itching to
derive some useful statitics from all the information :-)

The latest runs-list is on the web at
http://www.ndixon.me.uk/CTC/ctc.html and as a database under the
SouthLeicsCTC yahoo group. Since dont know the date for the David
Sulley rides I've just guessed. No doubt one of you will let me know
the real date.
I will admit that at one PBP control I asked for steak - only to find it was horsemeat. Now I have no knowledge of what racing the horse had been involved in, and what it might have been fed prior to it's demise. Obviously I was quite unaware of what I might have ingested as a result of a genuine mistake...... but if it included anything of a performance-enhancing nature, it was damn good value!
Incidentally there is an excellent feature in the December Pro-Cycling on the HGH test being developed by Dr.Richard Holt at Southampton University. To validate the test they needed 300 samples from elite athletes post-competition. At the World Champs in Paris large numbers of athletes showed great interest in the testing - but only 32 agreed to provide samples!

Just checked the PBP website and realised that if this guy started in the 22.30 group on Monday 18th August he took 82 Hours 27 Mins. With all the "help", he only beat my 1991 time by 37 minutes. I'd ask for my money back if I were him!

Peter, I love the acronym! As to the design, this has not yet been decided upon. Any ideas? We could have a competition! Ivan

Ivan,
The long-sleeved Training Jersey with full-length zip would be of interest.
I note from the Impsport website that the Training Jersey has a heavier material than the road race jersey, and is longer than the tracksuit top. The full-length zip makes it better to remove when the back pockets are stuffed with cameras, phones & cash etc.
Is there an agenda for the design? Are we renaming ourselves as the South Leicestershire And General Section to create a suitable acronym for the rear of the jerseys?
I would also be interested in long sleeve, full zip, cellulite reduction model, minus Pete's suggested logo. Think Bernie would like short everything - well almost.

Neil,
Impsport will meet orders for 12 garments or more - this could be five short
sleeve jerseys, 4 long sleeve and 3 pairs of shorts (they will do smaller
orders but at higher prices. There is a one-off set up charge of £35 for a
design with one colour (plus white), and the costs of jerseys varies beteen
£29 and £35 depending on short/long sleeve racing jersey, short/long sleeve
training jersey or track suit top with short/long zip. So total cost, with
set up costs, woudl be £32-£38.
Could you send this to all the others in the section and ask them to
confirm their interest. They can check the Impsport website at
www.impsport.com
