As Tony described in the latest Cycle Chat (BTW it was available to collect for those who attended the Carol service at Ashby Folville).

Subject: Thursday Ride List Update

Hello Everyone,
I have updated the on-line version of the list with latest info as attached. Yesterday a few of us went to the Bewicke Tea Room at Hallaton &, unfortunately, they lived up to their recently won reputation for abysmal service. When we arrived, not all together incidentally, there were four Welland Valley members, two other club cyclists & a 'civilian' couple already there. We finally numbered five so the staff could not be described as overwhelmed. With my penchant for pausing to study the countryside at frequent intervals I lagged behind James & Lyn &, although they were probably 10 minutes ahead at the Bewicke I was served with my special recipe hot chocolate before they received their coffee & tea. Lyn had to remind them about his coffee which came in a three-quarter full cup & not the mug he had ordered. James's tea arrived without milk & my cheese scone failed to arrive at all. This required a reminder & then came with butter rather than the Flora I had requested. It was some time before anyone else appeared to confuse them so the term "stress" would be quite inappropriate. The staff consisted of a teenage (or remarkably young looking adult) girl & a lad who looked about 13 & appeared to have been woken very gradually from a long sleep. Whatever would they have done with 20 or 30 cyclists & how could they be expected to cope with people coming for lunch? There seems now to be no conistency with staff & the improvement we were promised by a lady we saw only once has failed to materialise. Conclusion: if it's very cold or wet & you want somewhere to hide away undisturbed for an hour or two the Bewicke is a haven of peace; if you might like to get some cycling in why not bring a flask & sandwiches & sit in the garden?
Pity really because I think most of us like the ride to Hallaton & are even quite fond of the actual building.
No TC stars I'm afraid.
Best wishes
Max
