Well last nite we just got power back here in sw west dade and phone
back the day before,Wilma was alll bad,but did get me out side more
and riding more around town.
Hi,all been out of contact. Funny how when the AC & tv don't work, how
bent riding is even more fun!
dana
(My dish is on the west side and the intense wind came out of the east so it was protected but both my neighbor's dishes were in the path of last weeks wind and is stayed right there)
Do you get Internet Access via Satellite?
(No, I have Bellsouth fast access but I believe one can get internet access. It's pretty pricey though. I went to yellow pages...satelite TV...and asked a million questions) Comcast up here leaves alot to be desired. They don't have a clew. They have no service on weekends and ignorant people working there. Mine went out Fri night during the World series last year and I had to wait to Monday for them to fix it. Our whole neighborhood of about 50 houses went to dish, Comcast sucked so bad.
Pros: Very nice digital picture and a couple hundred channels with some real good music channels. Sirius satelite radio is part of the programming along with 4 movie channels and with 5 HBO channels. I have DISH TV and the tech line is great if trouble persists and with ours it never has persisted but I had to call them twice so far and they had the answer inside of a minute.
Cons: Sometimes in hard rain the signal goes away. This does not bother me as it usually only lasts a couple minutes...sometimes only seconds...FG
Now the question is WILL I GET THE DAY OFF?
(Post Hurricane Recovery = 12 hr days, 7 days a week)
(Too bad I'm Salary or I'd love the hours)

Paul I received a Sun USX last year as a Fathers' day gift and the bike
is great down here in New Olreans even though it is quite heavy. I
have put 4,000 miles on the trike in a year just using it for walking my
little Jack Russel Terrior, runing to the grocery store and riding the
Missisisppi Leves.
I have ridden up to 25 miles in local traffic which is much more than
anyone should with the drivers here in Louisiana. Both I and my
wife are in our midseventies and enjoy our trips as she rides a Sun SX
Trike. The trike works great as we have installed large rear
baskets and can haul large amounts of food products scquired in our
sjopping trips. Hope your Trike works as well as ours have

Thanks Maxxim
You should do fine with this so long as the rides are leisure to moderate. Faster rides may be a problem. BTW, I just scheduled a ride for this Saturday. Check out the schedule @ www.GetBent.org/events.htm

group rides starting from west broward?
What do you pay for a Satellite Dish and did you take it down during the storm? Would the Satellite dish not blow away otherwise? Do you get Internet Access via Satellite?
Others, have you had a chance to review the list of WOT invaders that I sent last Friday?

Hi Everyone! Haven't been on here all summer but haven't stopped
thinking about everyone, remembering our fun times and wondering
what's next on SFRR's agenda. Been checking out what you've been up to.
Wow, the WOT event sounds great and Don would love the trike adventure
but Don isn't in FL yet but maybe he will by by then.
Wonder if the ole Benz will make it up there without breaking down?
It's been so long since I've ridden - I'm bad - The weather was very
hot this summer in Maryland, then the rains came; that's my story and
I'm sticking to it.
Going to try to work it out so I can train a little and then scoot up
there for this. Jose, I'll let you know more as I work it out.
Looking forward to seeing everyone. I've missed you!

First of all, I expect that everyone has escaped this storm with no
injury. Jeff and I and "the boys" fared ok. We finally got power back
last night. We had our shutters up and only lost 1 roof tile and 3
sections of fence which were nailed back up temporarily so the dogs
could use the back yard. The fences are 17-20 years old in this
community so it's no surprise that they are all rotted. Ours will
need to be replaced very soon.
The trees in the neighborhood took the biggest hit. Our beautiful
canopy is no more. It's bittersweet, though, because most of the
trees were black olive trees which we all hated. They leave a rust
colored hue over everything - cars, fences, houses, sidewalks - for 3
months every spring. Their sap has ruined a number of shirts when
they would drip as you walked by. They were the darlings of
developers 10+ years ago because they grow fast, but the city of
Plantation has realized the folly of using them and they are now
banned. Our black olives that have been taken out by Wilma will be
replace by native species which will hopefully be less damaging.
Yesterday I went riding with the SBW club (since the Naples weekend
was also called off), and I stayed with the advanced group (18-20 mph)
for 22 miles. At the rest stop, the ride leader indicated she was
taking the group on a longer ride and since the whole last leg was
into the wind, Jeff and I split from the group and did the last 9
miles, going north and east directly into the NE wind, at a must
slower pace. When we arrived at the start, the main group was already
there. They bagged the longer mileage, too, and ended up with only 1
mile more than we had. My goal was to stay with an advanced ride by
the end of November, so my training is right on track.
Now, a reply to Eileen:

Your timing wasn't so good - Wilma took precedence! What type of bike
did you buy? If it's a short wheel based with a higher bottom
bracket, or underseat steering, those can be a bit harder for a
newbie.
Here is some advice that helped me when I first started:
Make sure you're in a low gear (middle chainring in front, big ring in back).
Have your starting foot on the pedal in the "power position" just
forward of top-dead-center.
Hold one brake so the bike can't move.
Lean back into the seat and RELAX. Keep your shoulders down.
Don't hold the handlebars in a death grip.
Look down the street, not at your feet.
Keeping your back against the seat and shoulders relaxed, push hard on
the pedal with your starting foot to get forward momentum.
Bring your other foot up to the other pedal and just turn the cranks.
If you use some kind of foot retention system, wait till you're moving
well before trying to get the second foot in (to toe clips, clipless
pedals, or PowerGrips).
I hope this helps. One thing you should definitely think about is
going to the West Orange Trail ride the weekend of Nov 11-13. You'll
have a zillion people ready to help you, and lots of other bikes to
try out to see if a different one suits you better. Jose has provided
the website with more information. I can tell you that the Edgewater
Hotel is full up, but there is a Red Roof Inn about 2 miles away that
still has rooms and is reasonably priced.
If you can't get to the WOT invasion, consider coming to one of our
leisure rides and we can help you out then.
All the best to everyone!
Shari

Sorry man, I have my hands full in the two counties I work in up here. I am 20 jobs behind since Tuesday. I have a good friend in Boynton named Bill Hartman who owns Bulldog fence Co. 561-833-8772. They may not have power yet...I don't know. Get to him now before he has too much on his plate. Give him a call and tell him that I sent you. I'm sure he will give you a play. He's a very fair guy...George
Thanks to Wilma it looks like I will need a new fence too. Make me a deal?
The Speedway ride of the Everglades Bike Club this weekend is
cancelled. I just out today and I have no power and am on my laptop
with batteries. Please pass the word around ASAP to anyone you think
was attending.
Thersa and I did ok in the storm, but we still have no power. The
good news is I've got here riding our mountain bikes around.
The ship situation at the port of Miami has been a strain this week,
and it was only today that we started to bing in container ships.
Jay Copp called me the other day to check on how we made out and
wished us all well - thanks Jay.
BTW - I'm hearing the Broward Wheeler Century next weekend might be
cancelled.
My best to all our SFRR friends,
Steve
Coral Gables
Please check this new list and let me know if there are any errors.
I may not be able to respond to any emails until next Monday compliments
