This morning as I went out the door a little bird or was it a buzzard? (it
takes one to know one) came flying and landed on my shoulder and told me there
is another bent invasion coming soon!
Yes you all time to start preparing your suitcases again.

Sorry I could not make it I was riding with my grandson who is 7 years old and
not ready for sush ride. Maybe he can join one of our SFRR rides after he
recuperates and tell some of his many stories. This has been an epic adventure.
I wish him rapid recovery.

Too bad more people could not make it out to ride with Rafael yesterday, it was
a little hot but a great ride anyway. I met up with him and Jim Artis from
North Carolina on US27 and together we rode back to home to Weston. Along the
way were several people cheering him on and welcoming him back home, as well as
several reporters taking pictures. Here is a link to one of the articles, with
some pictures;

I am looking forward to when it cools down a little more to resume the Sunday
Morning Ride again.

Hi, Maria,

Jeff and I are heading up to Sun City outside Hilton Head, SC for a
biking weekend. We haven't been to Sebring in a number of years, but
it's great riding. Are you staying at the Kenilworth? It's very
rustic, and I enjoyed staying there, especially if you can get the
cabins around the pool. A couple of times we stayed at Inn on the
Lake a little ways north on US 27. Very nice hotel, great place for
lunch, too. Have a GREAT time!

OK.... OK... I may as well reveal our little secret before Sergio, Bill H. or GreenSpeed Steve let our cats of of the hat.  Sue and I just picked up six feline wheels from Josh from Atlantic Bicycles.  Susan's three wheels are held together by a red Expedition frame. I'm not sure why she picked red. That may be her little secret... but... hmmmm... isn't red the Devil's favorite color? My wheels are kept in place by a very dark .... OK.... BLACK frame. Some may say that my Cat's frame is almost as dark as my soul. Fortunately for me, I don't have a soul but if I did, I guess  there would be some truth in that...

The two Catrike Expeditions are our 28th wed anniversary present and YES, we're really happy we got them. Josh did one hell of a great job setting them up and I must say that this man has the patience of a saint. Most of you don't realize how picky I can be, specially when it comes to recumbent contraptions and yep, I must have driven Josh a bit crazy. Josh waited and waited and waited for us to make a decision and once we knew what we wanted he waited some more but never EVER complained about it and was always super happy to discuss our insane ideas.

So why a Catrike? Well, because WE LIKE THEM!!! And why do we like them? I'm not really sure if it is chemistry or magic but my science background tells me that it must be magic. Heck, the trikes do look COOL,  They float silently, compliments of our decision not to use chain tubes. They're super stable , comfortable and the ride is much smoother than that of our old Catrike Road though the smoother ride may be a function of the standard 1.5 Marathon Racer's non performance tires. In spite of those slow -soft tires, our Cats seem to be quite responsive and probably faster than your average Cat ( Catrike Steve's Pink Demon must not viewed as standard)  but the fact is that  we are quite  interested in enjoying   slow, relaxed, comfortable rides and,,, last I heard, we have no plans to participate in the Tour de France or ride super fast in one of those fastidious faith lines of road wedgie fame. But maybe the most important reason for the Expedition - my most important reason (Sue may not agree) is that I really look forward to TELLING YOU that .... "My Trike's better than your trike so nani nani boo booh" :-)

Will I keep my Bacchetta Giros? Oh yeah, of course....I solemnly swear I'll keep the Giro forever or,  as I once promised my ex beloved V2, "till death do us part! When it comes to recumbent, you know that I  firmly believe in polygamy. But please don't knock it, at least you wont be able to say I don't believe in anything....

Guys,

You may recognize this bike, specially if you found yourself huffing and puffing after its rider. Yep, this is Sergio's Low Racer, a custom made bike. A bike that is so fast, it should be illegal. He needs to make room in his stable and we'd like to help him sell this bike.

As most of the people on this board know we have a local Catrike Rider Rafael Giraldo riding across country from San Francisco to St Augustine to Weston. If by any chance you do not know of his journey you can find out more on his web site www.tourofdiscovey.com .

He is due to arrive back to Weston on Sunday and I wanted to get a group of bent riders together to meet him and escort him into town. His path home is straight down US27 from Clewiston, and the official meet point is for everyone else is at US 27 and St Road 84 intersection. I wanted to try and meet him a little farther up the road and actually help pace him back home. His planned arrival is at high noon so we will be out in the heat of the day, so anyone coming prepare accordingly. Steve and I both are trying to figure out the best way to logistically make this work as 27 is not a great road for meeting up with someone, so I welcome suggestions on a best place to meet up on 27 and I would like to get as many people from our bent community a possible for support.

Here is some more information on his cross country ride.
On June 6, 2009 our Weston resident, and middle school teacher Rafael Giraldo started an 80-day cross-country cycling trek called Tour of Discovery. As an educator wishing to inspire and teach his students, he has used his journey to convey a lesson in commitment and about the value of establishing meaningful goals in life. With the use of GPS tracking technology, and in combination with his web site, Mr. Giraldo has shared through digital photography, videos, and his blog, the experience of his continental crossing with students and the local, national, and international communities.

Tour of Discovery started in San Francisco, CA and has taken this educator to Saint Augustine, FL after crossing 11 states: California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Mr. Giraldo has faced many difficulties to accomplish his goal of teaching his important lesson. He conquered the snow of Carson Pass in the Sierra Nevada in California; surpassed more than 24 summits in Nevada, faced the desert and its sandstorms in Utah, ascended to Monarch Pass at 11, 312 ft in Colorado, and survived terrible storms in the Great Plains.

On Sunday, August 30th Mr. Giraldo seeks to finish the last leg of his journey as he rides back into our beloved city of Weston. Come join us as we welcome him home.

"Wild" Bill mentioned to me a while back about possibly scheduling a Rolling Coconuts ride, Lake WorthTriRail station to Palm Beach Inlet, for this Sunday morning.

Bill- Is this ride still on? If so please post it in the ride calendar.

It looks like I will be able to attend, as will "The Hammer" and "GroovyFOG". The "Waynster" may join us too.

This is a great route and a fun group. The route allows for folks ride at a "go your own pace" kind of speed and regroup at predesignated locations. Last time we had lunch in Lake Worth afterward.

Bill- Let us know. We are itchin' to roll with the CocoNUTS!

As most of the people on this board know we have a local Catrike Rider Rafael
Giraldo riding across country from San Francisco to St Augustine to Weston. If
by any chance you do not know of his journey you can find out more on his web
site www.tourofdiscovey.com .

He is due to arrive back to Weston on Sunday and I wanted to get a group of bent
riders together to meet him and escort him into town. His path home is straight
down US27 from Clewiston, and the official meet point is for everyone else is at
US 27 and St Road 84 intersection. I wanted to try and meet him a little
farther up the road and actually help pace him back home. His planned arrival
is at high noon so we will be out in the heat of the day, so anyone coming
prepare accordingly. Steve and I both are trying to figure out the best way to
logistically make this work as 27 is not a great road for meeting up with
someone, so I welcome suggestions on a best place to meet up on 27 and I would
like to get as many people from our bent community a possible for support.

Here is some more information on his cross country ride.
On June 6, 2009 our Weston resident, and middle school teacher Rafael Giraldo
started an 80-day cross-country cycling trek called Tour of Discovery. As an
educator wishing to inspire and teach his students, he has used his journey to
convey a lesson in commitment and about the value of establishing meaningful
goals in life. With the use of GPS tracking technology, and in combination with
his web site, Mr. Giraldo has shared through digital photography, videos, and
his blog, the experience of his continental crossing with students and the
local, national, and international communities.

Tour of Discovery started in San Francisco, CA and has taken this educator to
Saint Augustine, FL after crossing 11 states: California, Nevada, Utah,
Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and
Florida. Mr. Giraldo has faced many difficulties to accomplish his goal of
teaching his important lesson. He conquered the snow of Carson Pass in the
Sierra Nevada in California; surpassed more than 24 summits in Nevada, faced the
desert and its sandstorms in Utah, ascended to Monarch Pass at 11, 312 ft in
Colorado, and survived terrible storms in the Great Plains.

On Sunday, August 30th Mr. Giraldo seeks to finish the last leg of his journey
as he rides back into our beloved city of Weston. Come join us as we welcome him
home.

What about a 20 bent bike pace line? According to Sergio's calculations, such a group would go from a few miles long to about 33.5  miles long, if in single file.

They proposed this a few years ago.

Remind them that a 20 cycle group riding a few inches apart side by side goes from a few hundrd feet long to a few miles long if in single file 100 feet apart. No one will be able to pull out of their side street fo a looooong time waiting for that group to pass.

Also mom and dad out for a ride with the 5-year-old will not be able to keep in touch with the kiddie LAW SUIT!!!!
