Both Beth and I will be at the MS150 this weekend. The shop will be
open if anyone needs anything. I will be bringing a small assortment
of bent tires and tubes in case anyone has flat tire problems. Past
experiance has shown that the road crews don't usually carry Recumbent
sized tires and tubes. If you are riding I advise you carry at least
one extra tube for each size tire. If you need a resupply or are
having some problems you can call my cell and I will try and help the
best way I can. Team Atlantic bicycle is leaving with the teams
shortly after 7:00 AM an since the only people in the team that are
riding the whole distance is me an a very fast Pink Cat I might be
riding alone for a little while, so if anyone else finds themself
riding alone give me a call and we will see if we can meet up and ride
together. My cell number is 954-295-7973.

Welcome back Jose.......

We can do Rick's wonderful Hollywood Beach tour with a southern
extension, Okeeheelee with the trails to the south, and my new ride
on A1A from Singer Island (WPB) north to Juno/Jupiter/Jensen.

I will call this the SIJJJ ride. Ocean breezes and views are great,
as are the seaside cafés. Bring your suit and take a cool swim for
the return ride.

Everyone come on out and ride before the heat bears down.

Forecast: winds are mostly easterly at 12, isolated showers, 82
degrees, and somewhat cloudy. Perrrrrrfect day in paradise

Later,
Bill

Actually I have ridden Longleaf several times already. It's a rail
trail 1 to 2% most of the way. You go through the forest through some
swampy areas, horse areas and generally small town Mississippi. The
eastern trail head of from University of South Mississippi in
Hattiesburg. The trail had flush bathrooms every 5 miles with the
exception of one stretch of 13 miles.

If you want to ride the Natchez I would suggest contacting
www.ridesouth.com they are a large bent shop out of Jackson MS. They
do rides along the Natchez on a regular basis and can point you in the
right direction. I have thought about riding the Natchez as well but
it's pretty hilly in parts.

Rod,

Give us a ride report on the Longleaf Trail.  One of my "dream" rides is to do the Natchez Trace from Nashville, Tn going south to Natchez then catching the Longleaf Trail.  I'll be interested in your observations on the riding conditions, terrain, etc.

Great riding with you in South Florida.

Well I am now sitting in my hotel room looking at my new Strada. I
rode everything it it was darn close between the Giro 26/26 and the
Strada, but in the end the Strada just felt better.

Thanks for the rides, see you guys in November sometime. I am heading
for Longleaf in the morning. I am just trying to figure out if I am
taking the trike or the "new bike" Maybe we will see if I am up to 60
miles on the Strada.

Phil and I rode the General Van Fleet Trail today. 16+ avg. for 58mi. ( This speed is not typical of a CRABS ride.) We started at Mabel and rode so. to Polk City where we had breakfast at "The Other Place." Will Byers and his wife gail showed up at the restaurant. Phil and I enjoyed their company as we wolfed down our breakfasts.
Heading back to Mabel we had a slight headwind. We were pleased to find out that our returning time was just about the same as our outgoing.
Of course it wouldn't be the CRABS if there wasn't an incident. Right at the end of the ride I started slowing and steered to the right. Phil was still under full steam coming up behind me. Phil managed to avoid me by swerving wildly to the right. He then did an acrobatic, Indiana Jones maneuver to avoid the stop sign that was in his path. All's well that ends well. Phil is unscathed but did have a few heart palpatations.

Come on out and ride with the CRABS. We guarantee it will be entertaining.

Buy a new Corsa S/S ! The Aero is yesterday's bike and it has that
questionable seat mount design.

Shipping on my ActionBent to Yakima, Washington, was $124.00. I
collapsed the boom, removed the pedals, removed the seat, removed both
wheels, removed the bars and built a box that was 54"x13"x25" and
weighed 53 lbs. In all of that, I didn't remove ANY cables, so the
bike went right back together...

It was great meeting you and enjoying the rides, advice, and diners.

Also, many thanks for your detour to WPB. Pat was having a pretty bad
day and she sure perked up after riding your trike. Saved her day.

I'm looking forward to November and riding again. Hollywood Beach
and Okeeheekee will still be there. Hopefully I'll have my 700 by
then and you with the Bacchetta.

Till then,

PS....I'll let you know when I get the telescoping antenna for the

I was riding to dinner with my parents and noticed somebody riding a
tour easy. Are they a member of this group? I was hoping for somebody
to ride with here in Weston when I come down in November on my next
Florida trip.

I forgot to add that weather could be a factor. If the ride is going to be cancelled it will be posted by 5:30 Tues. morning.

The CRABS  are riding again. This Tues. at 7:30am we will be starting from Mabel Trailhead on the Van Fleet Trail and head south to Polk City ( 29mi. ) where we will have breakfast. After breakfast we will do the turnaround and head back to the start. This will be a 13-15mph pace and could be a little faster if the wind is at our back. Come and join us for all or part of the ride. We will keep the pace. Those that can't keep up will be dropped. This is not typical of a CRABS ride but in order to do the 58mi. in a reasonable time we are giving the caveat. Come on out and enjoy a CRABS ride.

Here are some "specifics" for Hollywood Beach, April 27th:

Meeting Place: Anne Kolb Park on Sheridan Street(free parking)

Time: 9:30 am (for those that don't want to get up too early)

Ride time speed and length: At least 20 miles, average will be slow
enough not to drop anyone.

Additional Info: There is a craft show on the broadwalk for several
blocks, so it will probably be more crowded than last weekend.

Hope to see several riders out for this event.

I spoke with the nice gal at the Central Motel in Inverness today on
the phone and made a room reservation. At noon today (Friday) she had
33 available rooms, but cautioned that they WOULD FILL for the
Memorial Day weekend, so if you want to stay and ride two days, make
your reservation now.

Number at the Central Motel is 1-800-554-7241 and rooms start at
$45.00. All the King rooms are gone already, but there are plenty of
rooms with two queens.

Central Motel website is: http://www.centralmotel.com/index.html.

Ride still starts at 10am, and we'll ride one direction on one day and
the opposite direction the next. Meeting place for the ride is
parking lot of the Central Motel. Hope to see some of you there!

Well since there are big storms between here and DFW this weekend
through Monday I am staying here. I will be heading out Monday
instead of tomorrow. I really liked the Hollywood ride and would not
mind doing that again or something similar.

I would do something tomorrow but need to head over to coconut grove
to pick up a bike rack. The guy selling is supposed to call me with a
time.

Thx

NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE

Neither E.T nor I will be able to lead this ride this week or next week.  We will be back for this regularly scheduled ride on May 10.  This does not mean that everyone who wants to ride should not come and do it.  This is a great park and a perfect place to start your weekend.

Take Care,
Bill
