Mike, as soon I get back from North Carolina I'll pick a date. It will
be either April 19th or the 26th. I'll be in touch.

Ted are you listening? Do you want to meet along the way and keep us
company for a while?

Hello Jose! Long time no see...

As for the new bike, well, if you stopped in at Atlantic Bicycle, and
bribed Josh a bit, he would probably show you my new Cat Trike Trail,
with the upgraded shifters and stuff. I'll be going down to get it in
a week or two (I still need to stuff that second suitcase with money
to pay for the darn thing...) From now on, it's three wheels for me...

Steve,

The Team is lsited as Atlantic Bicycle, So far I have had several
people say that they want to join the team but only a handfull
have. I would really like to have a large recumbent turn out (the
pink 700 would stand out), but we will have a few others on wegies
joining us as well.

Tom,
The Slow Joe Coco is on Sunday and I think I can make sure that you
have a Trike by then, all you will need to do is bring your Suitcase
down to the shop a little later on this week.

Josh.

Performance and  Nashbar both offer house brand combination  rattrap /SPD pedals  for  about  $25 that work well and are bullet proof.  For shoes  I like  Shimano  sandals.

I did my morning ride on my new bike today.  Despite  being 16 gears short of completion it preformed very well, better than any bike I have ever owned or ridden.  The big surprise was the comments form the people on DF's, perhaps they don't see it as a (funny bike).  After the ride in the parking area a small crowd came over to look at the bike and asked where they could get one, when I told them, they stated,"you could make a fortune if you produced them".

Hello from the north side of the Lake,

Well, I boxed up my old Actionbent Recumbent yesterday and today took
it to FedEx in Jensen Beach and sent it to its new owner in Yakima,
Washington (MAN was that expensive!). I have a new bike down in the
shop at Atlantic Bike, and Josh will have it put together in a few
days. One of the things that I have been reading about a great deal,
and doing some early thinking about is the idea of some 'longer' rides
with the new bike. Touring perhaps, from here, up into central or
north Florida when the fall comes around and the heat lets up a bit.

Have any of you done any bicycle touring and would be willing to pass
along ideas or routes to this old (and rapidly getting older) cyclist?

I have gotten to the point that I look at the shoulder of every road I
drive for work these days to see if it has enough room to let a
touring bicyclist ride unfettered.

I'm thinking of taking a first trip from Okeechobee up to Sebring/Lake
Placid area and back on a weekend this summer, or a two day self
supported ride around the lake with camping along the way. Longer
trips later after I refine my gear and get it better shape, perhaps a
week or so, around here in Central Florida perhaps.

Just looking for ideas.

Before you make plans for a similar ride next year, drop me a line! I
think I can get touring gear together in the next year or so.

That sounds like a plan! I "might" do the metric on the 6th but that will depend on what Sue is doing on that day. If she wants to ride, we'll do the shorter ride. If she wants to sleep....  I'll do the full metric. By the way, set aside April 13th for another Slo Joe Super Metric!!! Joe will follow up with details!!!!

And..... a little bird told me that we're gonna have a full moon in April .... so.... this means that.... we can do a late afternoon/evening Shark Valley and have enough light to avoid running over the hungry gators!!!! Hey, Joe, so.... OKAY...... let's hear those details......

Join us for the Slo Joe Coco Rides and BBQ.  Two rides followed by a BBQ at my sister's hacienda.

7:30:  Metric Ride (62 miles):  From Deering Estate thru Coconut Grove to Key Biscayne and back.

10:30?? Jose (who I have to write to about this) and his lovely wife will be doing the Coco ride (25 to 30 miles) from Deering Estate to Coconut Grove and back.

Me idea is to have the "Jose" ride timed to meet the metric ride at Coconut Grove and we all ride back together to the BBQ to arrive around 1:00 pm

So....you have two rides to suit your pace and then ze BBQ:

7:30  62 miles at a 14 to 16 mph pace

10:30 (to be confirmed) at a Jose/Sue pace

BBQ:  If you haven't done so already email me your BBQ Choice....................

Email me at jkeenan0407@...

  • B. Hamburger or Cheeseburger
  • C. Slo Joe's "To Die For" Cholesterol Hot Dawgs (there will be enough for all to sample)

Being that I drive along Lake Osborne Drive almost every day, I will
attest that it's a great smell the roses ride. If you can get there go
for it.

P.S. ET my offcie is by I-95 on 2nd Ave N orth right behind Publix. Too
bad my home is 60 miles south of there.

I just talked to Jose and we will be doing a 30-35 mile ride tomarrow
morning at 7:30 AM. The plan is to meet at Lesters at 7:30 AM and be
on our way by 7:45 AM. Sorry Andy P.Pines is just a little too far
for me to be able to get back to my shop on time from. Maybe the
elusive Sergio will want to ride with us, it has been such a long time
since we have ridden together.....

As some of you are aware I will be riding the MS150 this year, this
will be the 14th year I have done it. If you want to ride it, now is
the time to speak up. I will give anyone who wants to join team
Atlantic Bicycle a free Mt Borah recumbent specific jersey (a $45
retail value). If you sign up before April 1 you can save $10 on the
registration fee. Just Say yes and tell me what size jersey you
wear. I have ridden this with a group of bents about 4 years ago and
it was a blast.
