Well Sunday's metric ended up with me visting the paramedics at the
Key Biscayne Fire Station. Nice folks, but I'd rather not have seen
them under these circumstances.

Quickly down at about 25 mph with road rash on my right calf, right
thigh, right buttock and right forearm.

How: STOOPID DOT road work and I wasn't CAREFUL.

What: What looked like a fresh lane of macadem. Hey..smooth..nice.
Painted lines. No warning signs of road under construction. It
looked like a done deal.

How: Coming off the bridge letting 'er rip I moved into the car lane
(no traffic at 7 a.m.) to pass a group of slow cyclists. The left
edge of the macadem was even with the right edge of the concrete lane
to my left. WHAT I didn't notice was that the right edge of the
macadem was about 1 to 2 inches below the level of the lane to the
right.

So I drift right coasting along, looking down the road and BLAM.
Down and sliding, wondering why I'm looking at the road inches from
my face.

Some cyclists stop to help me and tell me that others have gone down
in the same area.

Fast forward to an hour later. I get to Coco's in Coconut Grove to
meet my friend John for lunch and I'm wrapped in gauze so the ride
side of my body looks like an ad for the "Mummy".

As I sit down there are five cyclists at a table to my right. One of
them looks at me and says: "Key Biscayne, right?". Yeah, how'd you
know? He says we had some guys go down there last week end. LAST
WEEK END!!!! and there are no signs up that say "Uneven Road"
or "Road Work Ahead". STOOOPID DOT or whoever.

Also my bad for not checking the road conditions on BOTH sides of a
newly paved stretch.

Oh..fast forward to later that day as I'm in agony and my sister
says: "Let me call my trainer to see what can be done." She comes
back in and says: "You're not going to believe what he said". "What
he said" says I. She says, he says: "Your brother too"? Seems 2 of
his cycling friends went down LAST WEEK END.

So no "pace line".

No "Faith line".

Just a dumb false sense of security because of "road lines".
Wouldn't you think if you see freshly painted road lines that all the
work is done? Yah, stoopidly so did I.

BE CAREFUL: Always

I think I should let Joe Keenan report on this ride. All I can say is that yep, it was fun but we did learn that a leisure ride through a park is almost as dangerous as a "faith" line - especially when the trail is decorated with numerous piles of horse and dog poo poo. Yep, we had one crash and one flat and believe it or not a steaming pile of excrement had something to do with each event. Luckily the only things that got hurt were my stomach muscles..... from laughing.....

Florida is the home of ....

if you look at there web site ,it shoes a list of dealers ...i would suggest to you that give each one a call and see if you can make a deal , but be warned , at the moment there is a wait list for new trikes so you would be looking at a used ,older model ,

for the cost of a 3 week rental ,you might consider shipping your Trice over , then again you could always ride it over !

I will be spending three weeks in Florida. Is there anywhere in
Florida where I can rent a Bent Trike?? Due to medical reasons, I
prefer a trike to a 2-wheeler....

I own a recumbent trike (Trice QNT) & ride about 50+ miles a week in
the San Francisco Bay area.

Starting May 7, I will be in Boca Raton for 7+ days &
Jacksonville-area for 10+ days...
I may be relocating to the area.
thanks for your thoughts.

For the sake of those of us who - like me- no longer keep track of the news as they're usually bad news, why do we all of a sudden have a shortage of titanium? Is this precious metal being used to make bombs, body armor, assault vehicles.... or is it a terrorist metal of choice?

Rich Pinto officially announced that the Bacchetta Ti AERO is now in
postponed production because of the shortage and cost of titanium. He
didn't say it would never be produced again, but I wouldn't hold my
breath.

The good news is I know someone who will sell me an AERO BASSO if she
decides to get a carbon bike. I'll buy it.

The V3 is a totally different kind of bike and can not replace a bike
like the Aero.

I have a V2 which has an almost identical riding position to the V3.
I will be testing it soon and comparing to my Volae Sport. Will
report here when the testing is completed to my satisfaction.

Hey guys,

Coni, Al, Joe Keenan, Arthur, Ti Joe, Al, Nan, Susan and me are going
to do a 33 mile leisure to moderate ride this Saturday and I thought
some of you may want to join us. The ride is mostly through parks and
the short time we're on the roads we're in low traffic areas or in a
bike lane. I rode with Coni and Al last weekend and thought they had
found a very nice/safe/scenic way to cover 33 miles.

If you'd like to join us, please be at the ride start by 8:45 AM!!! The
speed will be about 11 MPH to whatever. There are a few areas where we
can go faster if we want and then we can regroup easily enough.

FROM I-595 (SR84) AND PINE ISLAND ROAD, GO SOUTH ON PINE ISLAND ROAD 1.4
MILES TO FOREST RIDGE BLVD. (IT IS THE FIRST TURN SOUTH OF THE TRAFFIC
LIGHT AT SW 30TH ST). TURN RIGHT AND GO LESS THAN 0.1 MILE TO THE FIRST
OPENING ON THE LEFT AND CROSS THE EAST BOUND LANE TO THE PARKING LOT BY
THE SWIMMING POOL AND TENNIS COURT.

Note that this is a charity ride. The Ride FEE = $0.00
All proceeds will be donated to our own cause which I think is probably
a good cause (unless your name is Sergio)

Change of plans, Sunday's populaire has been postponed until further notice.
Instead I will
be doing an intermediate ride 2 to 3 hrs intermediate ride starting at Pompano
Beach city
hall at 8:00 am.
Then I will lead a leisured 5 mile ride to Pompano Beach seafood festival right
after,

There is plenty of parking to accomodate a large crowds at city hall so do not

Jeff and I had a wonderful 5 days of vacation time riding Thursday and
Friday in the north GA mountains with our wedgie friends Sue and
Graham, and on Saturday and Sunday riding the north FL hills around
Madison with fellow 'bent head Dennis.

First, the mountains: Our friends Sue and Graham live in Plantation,
FL, but have a lovely vacation home just northwest of Dahlonega, a
slightly touristy yet picturesque little village about an hour north
of Atlanta. We arrived just at dinner time on Wednesday, wolfed down
some baked ziti and relaxed the rest of the evening.

On Thursday morning, it was in the upper-30s, and felt fresh and
brisk. We didn't rush out, letting the sun do some work first. By
the time we got on our bikes around 10:30, it had warmed to the upper
50s with bright sunshine. It was a bit breezier than I would have
liked, but not the winds we often get in SoFla.

The Sharmans have a 19 mile loop they call "The Valley". It starts
out doing the back side of Woody's Gap, part of the 6-Gap Century held
in September, and then turns off to the northwest, taking in a 10 loop
over long, wonderful rollers, the most fun on a recumbent. The Corsa
danced up the inclines like a pony, and flew down the hills like a
banshee! On one descent, I hit 42.7 mph. It was a relatively short
slope. The best part was going up the other side. I got halfway to
the top before I had to pedal again, and then it was just so easy!

Graham and Sue couldn't ride with us on Friday - they had tickets for
the VIP tent at the Tour de Georgia. They met Phil Liggett, Bob Roll,
and TdF winner Floyd Landis! Jeff and I did the loop again, before
packing up and heading down to Madison, 5 hours south.

It always feels like I'm coming home when I arrive there. Jeff and I
love this area so much we are planning to buy property just north of
town. For now, we have to bug Dennis and Joanie. :-) Saturday
morning we met with the developer for a tour of the property, then
afterwards Jeff, Dennis and I went on a 25 mile ride over some nice
hills around Cherry Lake. It's so scenic, the weather was so perfect,
and the traffic was so light, that I could have ridden a century. But
I had to admit that my legs were getting tired.

Jeff decided to rest his legs on Sunday, but I couldn't pass up
another tour de Madison. Dennis took me on a loop that goes east to
the little town of Lee (motto: Small but proud!), then north a bit
and back west. It was also about 25 miles of beautiful scenery and
little traffic. We hated to have to leave, but the doggies awaited!

It was certainly a refreshing way to spend a long weekend with
friends. Now I'm really looking forward to the Silver Comet Trail.

In fairness to this mysterious rider who goes by the name of Sergio, I think he was distracted by his peloton.

Hey Sergio,

It was nice of your peloton to join our small group this Sunday. . Joe Keenan, Mike and I were really impressed by the number of bent heads that braved the high winds and rode with you. We wish you much success with those rides and we hope that the local police does not jail you for blocking traffic with all those weird bikes.

Did you guys complete 120 miles. I barely finished 62. Any longer, Joe and Mike would have had to call an ambulance and I would have been in real trouble cuz I stored my coffin for the summer.

Congratulations and keep it up!!!

Jose
