Danny I had Payton at Bicycle.spot give me some extra magnets that are off of old bike computers. Yes theyshould fit either wheel sizes if it's a spoked wheel. (Although I maybe trying them on a solid spoke {Aero Spoke} wheel before two long on my pending Agio. I did my calibration... (Big word for me) based on the front wheel and where the tire stem ended up when the wheel quits spinning. At present the weights and the stem stop at about the 3 o clock posistion. I also put the magnets on the spokes directly inline with the stem one, but on the opposite side of the wheel. My thinking (Eeeek!) is to try and balance the bike weight distribution out. You have your gear cluster, chain, idlers all on one side, so why not try and counter balance with weight on the opposite side ofthe bike? (See my photos) Now I hope my mileage competitors don't read this, because it might help them go faster and tack more miles against me... ;-) :"o)"

I flirted with going the solder route but found the computer magnets ready made and easy to tighten down onto the spokes. The solder route might be my choice if I ever put Aero Spoke wheels on my pendingAgio. And YES, I do believe balenced wheels DO MAKE A Difference. Every little bit helps for us slow types...

Dan,
Cool. Computer magnets? Is that what comes with those little wristwatch-looking speedos these days? Can those little speedos go on a 20" or 26" wheel?
Yes. You don't need magnets...all ya need is some 1/16" solder. Spin your wheel. the heavy side will seek the bottom. Put a half inch of solder wrapped around a spoke directly opposit the bottom.

Does the length of the wheel "cage" on a derailer have any relationship to how strong the spring is? In other words, longer cage, stronger spring and vise versa?
You're really diggin, Dan

Some of us love "tech talk". The reflectors are mostly to keep you safe at night. I don't think a bicycle wheel, generally, turns fast enough to make balance a problem. They do add a few grams though.
Feet first,
Fla George

Do you folks ever discuss technical things?

I was wondering if those spoke reflectors actually contribute anything regarding weight and balancing of the wheel. It seems to me that a lonely tire valve would put the wheel off balance some.

Cheers,
Dan--Sunrise

My wife and I had the pleasure of attending the 3-day portion of the
Florida Bike Safari in Live Oak last weekend. Beautiful country, some
rolling terrain (huff, puff), good food, great bunch of people.
Nearly 400 attended with 64 volunteers assisting. This event was
exceptionally well organized and the weather was perfect. We stopped
on the way home and rode from Inverness to Trilby on the Withlacoochee
Trail.

It was a great long weekend. I recommend anyone giving this ride
serious consideration.

Hehe.. You have to translate that stuff. Here's a guide.

Cyclists are the biggest sandbaggers and secret trainers around.
They'll say anything to soften you up for the kill. Don't let this
happen to you. Study this handy rider's phrasebook to find out what
they really mean when they say:

"I'm out of shape"
Translation: I ride 400 miles a week and haven't missed a day since
the Ford administration. I replace my 11-tooth cog more often than
you wash your shorts. My body fat percentage is lower than your
mortgage rate.

"I'm not into competition. I'm just riding to stay in shape"
Translation: I will attack until you collapse in the gutter, babbling
and whimpering. I will win the line sprint if I have to force you into
oncoming traffic. I will crest this hill first if I have to grab your
seat post, and spray energy drink in your eyes.

"I'm on my beater bike"
Translation: I had this baby custom-made in Tuscany using titanium
blessed by the Pope. I took it to a wind tunnel and it disappeared. It
weighs less than a fart and costs more than a divorce.

"It's not that hilly"
Translation: This climb lasts longer than a presidential campaign. Be
careful on the steep sections or you'll fall over -- backward. You
have a 39x23 low gear? Here's the name of my knee surgeon.

"You're doing great, honey"
Translation: Yo, lard ass, I'd like to get home before midnight. This
is what you get for spending the winter decorating and eating
chocolate. I shoulda married that cute Cat 1 racer when I had the
chance.

"This is a no-drop ride"
Translation: I'll need an article of your clothing for the
search-and-rescue dogs.

"It's not that far"
Translation: Bring your passport

This is pretty nifty.
Just enter your
zip code in the site below, and it tells you which gas stations have the cheapest prices (and the highest) on gas in your zip code area. It's updated every evening.

  Dr. Dobson & CBS Response

-if this a post from someone legitimately on the list, take your nonsense somewhere else.
Dobson is a panderer of hate (I live in CO and hear his 'ideas' regularly) - if this is not a
bent rider, perhaps membership should be moderated.

see ya,

Eldon,

This forum is not the place for this sort of post. You probably have
some kind of group mail list set up for sending this sort of thing
out. If so, remove SFRR from that group list. At that size, it is
effectively a mail bomb and should not be sent to any forum list
(unless it's a religious list where they might want that type of
post).

Thanks.

Shari
