I went by and checked out the Agio at Paytons (Bikespot) today. That
bike ROCKS! The MOST FUN to ride bike ever! Handles great, is very
smooth and not that slow either! The Agio will be my soon to buy
commute bike! Geez. even the ROYAL Blue looks good too! Give it a test
ride and remember, Payton does not charge any $$$ for test rides! ;-)

Hi Gang,
I just joined so I caught the tail end of this. WE live in the rudest part of the country I think. Instead of smiling and waving at us, they toss things? Or uh, flash us? hehehe Well that part's not so bad.

It's so great to have found this group. I would love to ride with you folks. My bent is almost finished. I'm going to put the cables on tonight, the last step.

I hope you guys don't laugh at my home-built bent though. A guy in Nebraska custom built the frame, powder coated it and I'm putting everything on.

Can't wait. But it'll be a couple months before I get my bent legs I presume.

Cheers,
Dan

Jay,

I'm sorry you feel you need to leave our group. We are very thankful to both
Bacchetta Bikes and Mark Powers for their support. I have personally thanked
everyone who has ever helped us, including Bacchetta Bikes, Power On Cycling,
Catrike, Atlantic Bicycle, and others. We’re also thankful for all the help
you’ve given our group.

This particular time, I didn't think to invite any vendors to the Withlacooche
Bent Invasion but that was an oversight. I just didn't think of it and I don't
think anyone of us thought of it either but it was an innocent oversight.

In your email you imply that someone "talked" "somebody" into buying from Peyton
instead of Mark from Power On Cycling. I am not aware of anyone in our group
doing this. Furthermore, this is not something I would do. I do not deny that
Peyton is a very close friend but I would NEVER, EVER consider doing such a
thing and I have no problem recommending either one of these vendors. I think
very highly of both Mark Powers and Peyton Walters. Both of these shops have
been very supportive of our group as has been Bacchetta Bikes and Atlantic
Bicycle.

Lastly, I must stress that I am really surprised and a bit sad about all of
this. I’d like to talk to you about it in person, if I may.

Jose

I know mad things like this make you feel, but throwing the bottle back at them might make them take out a gun and shoot at you. Getting shot is not worth having a little revenge.
I'd be more apt to shove the bottle up their exhaust and riding away laughing at the thought of those a_ _ holes scrambling out of their car trying to remove it.

Someone threw a bottle at me a while ago. It missed me by 3 feet or so. The car it came from changed lanes after the bottle came out of it to get into the left turn lane. There was a bunch of cars waiting for that light and this car was about 10th in line. I laid my Lightning (I got from Sergio) on it's side, picked up the bottle, walked out into the middle of US 1 in Stuart and threw the bottle as hard as I could at the windshield of that car. It hit the windshield right in front of the driver, BONK and didn't break it, it bounced off into the median grass. I then walked up to the car while the contents were rolling up there windows like atomic powered machinery, and said politely..."Bet ya never thought I'd do that, it's a jungle out here".
I then walked to the bottle, picked it up as not to litter, and took it with me. I think they thought I was gonna throw it again but I had made my point so they were safe for now. I hate ignorant a- - holes.

Wow am I glad to have found you all.

I'm this >< close to finishing my bent and would LOVE to ride with you.

Being of modest finances I bought a LaBent. It also helps that it's custom made since my long legs make it difficult to buy just anything. The LaBent was made to MY size exactly. It's a beautiful bike and I can't wait to get on it.

I'm currently debating having a bike shop do the cabling or trying to do it myself. The problem is the rear cables and fishing those long cables through the housings. The cabling is the last thing before I can ride it.

Thanks for having me and I can't wait to meet you all.

Was it a Coke or a Pepsi can? I find that Coke cans are a bit softer than
the
Pepsi can, mainly because everyone drinks the Coke and then throws it while
the Pepsi can is harder because the contents are still in the can while it's
being thrown. Actually, I don't even mind getting hit with a Coke can except
it's usually empty by the time it reaches it's intended target.
...Something to remember next time.

I think the group is missing the point.

These people do not owe us their time on the weekend; we are the ones
asking for a favor of their personal time.
Some of you may think that this is their job but it isn't.
We as a group are lucky, yes lucky that these people come out and
support us.
Have you seen Rans, Hostel Shoppe or others in Fla to give us a test
ride of their products.
I know some send money or gifts but that does not cost them personal time.
Yes Bill Cook was at the races one year but not to show his bikes and
let us ride them.
Cat Trike is the closest to coming out but that was at his factory and
in his hometown.
Don't get me wrong I know that there are other people/companies that
support us but not in person.

I was real surprised when Mark Powers said that he was going down to
the HPV races after the crap that was pulled on him after coming out
to the West Orange Trail rally.
He spends his time and energy to bring bikes out (only after I invited
him two days before since nobody told him or invited him to go) and he
lets everybody test drive the bikes he brought with him,he set
up and adjusted each one for each of the riders so they could try
something new.
Some of think yep that is what he does..... Nope he runs a bike shop 6
days a week and likes to ride with us and other people on Sunday, BUTT
you say he makes money when he does this....well maybe he would have
if he had sold a bike but the only lead he was able to make the rider
was going to buy a bike from Mark and then was talked into making the
purchase from Payton instead.
Now I have nothing against Payton, he has a good shop and is a good
Shop owner but where was he at the rally?
What's that you say? That is far away from his shop! It is on a Sunday!
I have attended many rides in South Fl, I have ridden the S Broward
Century a number of times and I never saw Payton out there with demo
bikes. Yah yah I know everyone loves Payton but where is he at the
events?
I could have invited Bicycle Outfitters but I didn't think anyone
would want to pay money for a test ride. What you say? Yep go to their
shop and before you can test ride a bike you must pay a fee 25-100
bucks for a test ride and you only get the money back if you buy a
bike from them.
So Mark closes his shop and comes down and pays for a hotel and
supports the HPV races. I hope at least one or two of you thanked him
for his time and money above and beyond the gifts that he gave you.
When I asked Mark why he was going he said it was the right thing to
do and wanted to support your group.
You as a group are lucky he is such a great and easy going guy that
understands that this is part of doing business.

So I guess I have beaten this horse about as much as I can :-)

Neither Power On Cycling or Bacchetta bikes will be joining you this
weekend.
You couldn't pay me to ask them to go!

No need on replying to my rant since as soon as I post this I am going
to remove myself form the list.
It has be fun and I have enjoyed my time ridding with all of you fast
or slow :-)
And now the disclaimer:
These are only my thoughts and comments not Mark Power's or Bacchetta
bicycles.

Clearly, I'm in favor of inviting anyone and especially the bent makers and
retailers. As Rick said and as I implied on a previous note, we just forgot or
didn't think of it.

A dB list is a good idea as it would remind us to keep these folks in mind.

Willie,
I think you got the way to go with this thing, although it's a little
bit late at this time for invitations. I agree with Jay this and
these things should have been thought of early and we just plane
screwed up.
Willie maybe we could use our database and make an Invite list for
the next Event we hold and do like you said, by area code.
Jay as you know the people at Bacchetta and if you would like too
Invite them please do so, let me know if anyone has talked to Mark or
not and if not I'll be glad to make the call.
I myself would like to see both places attend if to do nothing more
than ride wiyh the group.

That's a great Idea, Jay. I vote for you to head up a new committee to invite all VIP's to all recumbent rider's events.

That's one way to look at it Len................... Butt I know that
Mark Powers has so many e-mails to deal with everyday and is more than

John S at Bacchetta well I know he just sits around all day with

customers keep up his training, run a bike shop long distance, design

production....... yep he needs to spend more time on the news groups.

Weekend Invitations???

Perhaps we can work up an "Invitation List" for our major `bent weekends.

Maybe a list based on Area Codes, so possible interested people  NOT with the group can be advised of our out of town weekends.

Input anyone???

If they would join our group(s), they would be informed of all events.
I saw Mark Powers (Power On Cycling), some folks from Atlantic Bikes and Paolo (Catrike) at the HPV event a while ago.

I don't understand why we don't invite manufacturers or bike shops to
join us on these events................it just doesn't make sense.

misguided.

Hey Steve,

Let me set the record straight. Sergio does NOT need any SAG support. He is NOT
human. Honest! We KNOW!!! I've seen this man ride his bent with blown tires or
no tires. Ive seen him wear his rims down to the spokes. I once saw him ride a
tandem with so much rust on his chain, 1/2 the chain links were fused and the
other half were brittle like saltine crakers. but that didn't keep him from
finishing a ride.In fact, he didn't even bother to bring a chain tool. To fix
the chain (when it snapped as he tried to climb a bridge) he simply used his
TEETH! Last but not least, during our last X Florida adventure a couple of
years ago, he rode 1/3 of the way with NO WATER while pedaling with only one
leg.

So... go ahead and change your club's by-laws to specify that THERE WILL BE NO
SAG for SERGIO

Steve,
I stand corrected. I arrived late so I didn't notice the posted
contact #'s -- though I saw a truck pulling the Bike Tech trailer, I
didn't really notice him out on the road.

I'm relieved that this ride I didn't have a mechanical issue so
I really couldn't speak to how rapidly aid was available. It was
just casual inspection. I promise that in the future should I
attend any more EBC rides, I'll pay even stricter attention to these
details before expressing doubts.

Peace + Love,
  Cathy
