Folks,
Today's ride was pretty interesting. We had a little bit of everything: from
nice/isolated scenic roads to rough/crowded killing fields, from slow 12 MPH
hour "moments" to all out 25 MPH sprints. We had a headwind, a tailwind and most
importantly, we had a nice group of 7 riders including Bill, the "Wizard of
Coco", The "other" Catrike Expedition "Bill" of underwater adventures SCUBA
fame, Bob (the man who inspired our Wizard to conjure up a magic wand), Mike of
Easy Racers Fame, Jim of Aluminum High Racer Fame, the INFAMOUS Sergio on his
yellow low racer monstrosity and me.
What we didn't have was bad weather (we're not counting the hot weather as
"bad"). There were NO mechanicals like flat tires, broken chains and thankfully,
we survived the KILLING FIELDS without any significant "incidents".
This time, the route was so twisted and convoluted; I had an easy time keeping
the group together. Heck, if they didn't stick with me, they'd still be out
there riding in a hopeless effort to find their way home. So I guess this group
is not as dysfunctional as I expected since we did manage to get back together
after all.
The ride's statistics include: 38.5 hot miles, 13 MPH moving average (meaning
that for the most part we were doing 14-15 MPH), a handful of all out sprints,
one rest stop, 150 regroup stops and one missed lunch stop. Based on this, I'd
say the Giro de Miramar was quite successful.
